    re: sugar mt

Sugar Mt. is the best mountain in the area and also the most expensive, not by much though. If you are a begginer stay on the brown lift. I think it is the green circle lift or something. Its pretty long, but if you happen to advance really fast( no offense, most likely not) go up over to the yellow lift or red lift for intermediate slopes. If you are going to rent dont do it at sugar, it usually cost more and you get crappy equipment. Go to the bottom of the mountain to Alpine Ski Store or the one across the street.
    P.S. Have Fun!

i agree sygar is probly the best in the area overall but the last two times i went, iy has been extremely crowded to the point where it wasnt much fun. something else worth noting is their bunny slopes. they have an extremely easy one with a magic carpet lift, and this is where it seemed to be the most crowded. all the moms were standin in the middle so they could record johnny and susan on their way down. it seemed to be more of and obstacle course than a bunny slope. the next easiest slope was up a ways on the mountain, and can be very intimidaring for a beginner. first you have to take the chairlift(very hard and scary for a first time snowboarder), and the slope itself has several drop downs that arent bad, but can be intimidating. once you get enough experience thiugh, the rest of the mountain is fun after the lines for the lifts.

appalachian has two beginner slopes that dont require riding a chair lift. they are both in between the difficulty of sugars bunnys, so that can be a good thing. appalachian has turned into a snowboarding center after so many years of no boarders at all, and all the little park rats definitely show up with their attitudes. you also have to watch out for the boarders on one of the bunnys at appal bc the trails merge halfway down.

i woupd say appal is better for beginners( my gf liked it much more her first snowboarding trip) but since u have a place at sugar, by all means stay there since it is close.

Cricha, I used to live about 30 minutes from Sugar and Beech in NC. I prefer Beech, especially the past 2 seasons. They hired a team of new Groomers from Breckenridge and they are top notch. The snow at Beech has been so much better the past 2 years at Beech. Sugar in my opinion is not worth it. Its a bit more expensive and there are about the same amount of slopes. PM me if you have any questions man.

appreciate the heads up but the condo I am getting for free is at Sugar so chances are slim that we will go anywhere else. The most important thing about the trip is letting my little girl enjoy the snow. I will get a chance to try snowboarding but dought I will be able to tell the difference between good snow or bad. just want to try cuz everyone has told me for years that I need to. have skated, surfed and waked my whole life so I'll probably get just good enough at it to hurt myself....hope not but knowing my history and lack of patients it is real possible

we are going in February. is it possible there wont be snow? i know they make it. in the winter months does it ever get warm enough to completely melt all of the snow? in other words, do i have to worry about there not being snow?
