and like agua said, if it's free, why not?
Pure Island Surfboards out of New Smyrna Beach
i have some photos and a contest result, but thats it (none of my friends ever want to get out and get footage lol). i'll start competing more this season
as far as getting sponsors, you have to apply for them. they dont come to you. it's a pretty simple application tho, and getting sponsored through that site isn't hard. sponsorship is a 2 way street. they want you to spread the word about their product as much as you want discounts on stuff.
most likely you'll start off with just getting a percentage off of stuff, being that they dont really know you. but if you start competing a lot and posting good results, then the level of your sponsorship goes up.
and as for being required to compete, it depends on the sponsor. if they accept you, they'll send you a contract. you can look that over and decide whether or not to go with them. some may require you to compete, but from what i've seen most don't.
I remember when you had to surf in front of the reps of these companies, and impress them enough to get a hook up. Applying on the internet to get a sponsor? Lame, just surf, and if you're good enough someone will notice.
i agree with fletcher on this one. signing up online for sponsorships seems bogus. I think a definition of a sponsership is in need.![]()
same here. seems very lame to apply online. The best way is to still get noticed by your local shop and get on their team then as you progress they get you in with company reps for your first company sponsorships. the internet way seems very 'poseurish' and non-legit.
