biggest SD wave face in this millenium?

So, in a previous thread, I accidentally spark the debate of how big the surf actually gets in SD.

I claimed to have seen and have video of indicator on the cliffs breaking what I say is 25 foot waves faces. I might even argue 30.

However, I do understand that the hawaiians invented this system, and to them, it is not about the "wave face"... But I feel that surfline and other california wave calculators use wave face heaights when reporting and predicting our surf. It is much more accurate that way.

Point being: 4-6 foot blacks is way different that 6-8 foot blacks. But if wave faces that are upwards of 10 feet are called out by some to be 4 feet, its kind of weird.

So anyway, to the san diego surfers: There are about 4 spots than can hold over tripple overhead surf in the whole county. Swamis, Blacks the cove and Indicator.

How big has anyone witness it break? Or how big have you actually surfed it.

Maybe I need to rethink the way I judge wave heights. But I also feel like people say how it never gets that big here, and Ive seen it get fu**in big here.

Only been here a few months, and before that I've visited a few times in the Spring and Fall... but the biggest I've seen it here so far has been around 8-10 ft. I'd put that in the double to triple overhead range, maybe slightly bigger on sets but that's about it.

Still pretty damn big to me, I'm from the east coast... we're stoked on clean waist+ waves

??? i dont understand how 8-10ft is double to triple overhead. head high is 6ft, double over head is 12 and triple is 18. and yes, SD has seen 25 ft wave faces

o..i always just thought "head high" was an expression that meant six feet.

double overhead for me is around 10 ft, and anything bigger than that i'll start saying triple. you can't always really put an exact number on a wave face - i usually just guesstimate, you know, in "this" range.

i wouldn't say it's been awesome the last couple days... definitely fun though and anything waist+ and clean at some point in the day and i'm a happy face out in the line-up

I can't wait to get the equipment to convert my dv tapes to digital. I am tellin u I have 25 to 30 foot wave "faces" on film. it only happened 2or 3 times in the 8 years I've lived here. but I saw it with my own eyes and video cam.

indicators broke like 1/4 mile past the already ridiculously far lineup.

so;i was just puttin it out there.

and I consider tripple overhead only a few time a years. by my definition, when surfline reports: 12 to 14 foot with 18 foot sets.

that is tripple over head.

10 feet is maybe doh worthy

but toh is very rare.

biggest waves I've surfed here were pushin 20 feet. got punished after a while, but wave faces on the cliffs with the right tide certainly that large.

but the whole: headh hidh, overhead, double and tripple oh are very inaccurate.

my point is this,ob pier when it is 5 feet, it is fun. once it hits 7 feet, its a closed out mess. most spots on the cliffs hold about 10 to 12 feet, other hold more, but I need an accurate visual report of wave face height in feet to know what's what.

double overhead could be 8 feet or 12 feet and that is a huge difference. most people don't surf bigger waves than 8 feet. so accuracy is important to me. that's why hawiians confuse me. their scale is all messed up. 3 feet is our "overhead" definition
