I worked at an umbrella stand 4 summers in a row, by far the best beach job. June-August if you at a good street you will make good tips plus a commission off all the equipment rented out. Get a good tan, and surf before and after work everyday if there are waves. When its not busy you can take a nap. Lifeguards have to stay alert all day long and put up with dumb tourists that can't swim. Plus if it ends up raining all day, you get the day off.

Avid surfing is a hinderance to any profession, but sitting on the beach all day babysitting bathing shoobie-kooks while keeping experienced local waterman out of the ocean has to be the lamest f-ing job for a surfer ever. Unless perhaps your lifeguarding at Pipeline or something and actually helping surfers out.
my gosh......because of you guys......thanks for making me realize im such a boner and a loser because I lifeguard in the summer. I was wondering why I have had no friends the past 6 years....all along I thought I had an odor problem! Thank god for this thread! I am free!
Let me guess salty........ you tried out to be a guard but couldnt swim further than 100 yards without your surfboard so you gave up, then you went to the local town pool, tried out there, but couldnt hold your breath under water for longer than 30 secs so you failed that too, now you just hate life?
