The rangers DO NOT like surfers at all, I had one give me a $45 ticket for sitting about 5 feet up the dune bank (that day there was only 30 feet of beach at low tide) and an elderly man with his grand kid were further up having their picture took:mad, and I asked what about them and he said "well what about them" wrote my ticket and left, and that's only one of many I witnessed from the rangers.:mad
i think that the rangers check to see if you have a line in the water. one solution? - you get a group of friends together, and take turns with one surfer on the beach with the fishing gear, and everyone else out in the surf, or better yet, take one non-surfer to do the fishing, and everybody can get wet - of course, lots of time i go solo, so it wouldn't work for me
You know DE is a f**ked up place the second you drive thru Bethany Beach in thier 35mph zone that should be at least 45mph off season. Those SOB's sit in the median everyday handing out paper to people driving 40 which isn't even close to be unsafe. F'em I don't ever go up there anymore, the waves suck anyway, unless you like slow mushy crap. I'm with you as far as living in a tent on the beach, only it ain't going to be anywhere in the USofA. Indo., sounds a tad bit better to me..............
Just another reason DE sucks. I was yelled at and called back one time at the toll road booth for paying with change which happened to have a canadian nickel in it. The woman threatened me for passing counterfeit money, NO joke!
So now I never spend money on food or gas in DE. Act like an ass, lose revenue.
Wow, I'm not sure if the state or its merchants will ever recover now that you've decided to take your money elsewhere. I hope DE can survive.
I think the point is that the rangers are overzealous to a fault and will selectively enforce the rules depending on whether you are a surfer or not. For me, I have had several ridiculous encounters with rangers concerning my dog - I won't go into the details - lest I relive my anger, but lets just say that the level of enforcement was absurd - like a Monty Python skit.
I have seen others ticketed for going behind a dune to take a pee. C'mon!
It does make me think twice about going surfing in DE. The federales at Teague can be pesky in a federal government rule sort of way, but if you talk it thru with them they are usually reasonable. The state d1cks in DE are of a whole different order...they are all about power-tripping, not rangering.
And if you want to drive at Teague, well no need for a stupid fishing pole...just go surf.
my 2 cents.
By the way - thank you David for the original heads up.
