    Thumbs up west winds

The west winds are howling! looks like dropping in is a little difficult but definately some fun ones coming in, hopefully the wind will slack off in the afternoon. The water will taste yummy with the 4 inches of rain runoff. Looks like waves all week, swellinfo and finally from the E-NE direction.

Ya, it looks like as the low moves offshore, were going to see some E/NE fetch develop in our direction for some moderate sized surf during the middle to end of the work week.

Its looks like Saturday maybe alright. What do you guys think? Also, is there any sites that give a daily surf report for the delmarva area?

the weekend is looking fun, as winds are going to lighten up, and there should be some fun fading ENE ground swell hanging around. On these type of swells, the tides are usually pretty critical. Mid incoming tide is usually your best bet for most places.

Do you have any recommendations on where will be better than others? I am relatively new to the area. I'm not asking for any secret spots. Just trying to see if its worth the drive from the baltimore area.

sure. From baltimore, you'll be hitting up the Delmarva coast.

On a ENE/NE ground swell, I'd say the sand bars in ocean city are generally going to be your best bet. Ocean city basically offers shifting sand bars all up and down the 10 mile stretch, of which, any street is capable of offering up good surf.

The general trends of Ocean City is like this. The north end (120th to state line) can be more of a steeper shore break type wave, but can also get some solid sand bars going (very fickle sand bars up north). South end of ocean city (below 30th), the slope of beach tends to flatten out and it can be more conducive for the longboard type. Mid OC (30th to 80th) is generally the most consistent and reliable sand bars and an in between stage between the north and south stages just mentioned.

So, to answer your question without telling you spots to go to, Mid OC is generally most reliable for these type of swells. And, when the winds are Northerly, it gets cleaner the further south you go, as the beach faces more south as your drive south on coastal highway. On a SW wind it is the opposite (cleaner as you head north).

You'll have to figure out what style wave you like the most along with crowd factors and such...

Hope that helps. Let us know if you get some fun ones this weekend.

since the last forecast update, friday is looking more choppy with N/NE winds. I think the weekend will be better.
