saturday/sunday forcast

this site is great. But can we do something about the forcasts for chest high waves that turn into thigh high waves make me go crazy. does anyone else feel this way. i guess since i cant forcast for myself, the saying beggers cant be choosers, applies. Thanks alot lets hope for some bigger waves than thigh high this weekend.

I think people were taking what you said a little too literally. I know where you're coming from. Just last night the forecast called for waist high all day tomorrow and now it's down to ankle to knee. Very aggravating. Also, the forecast for today was pretty off as well. Ankle to knee forecast was pretty off as far as I could see today. There was pretty consistent thigh high waves with the occasional sets at waist to chest level around the OC area. Just use the forecast as a frame of reference and go out and check for yourself if you can. if not then oh well, just hope you get lucky I guess.

surfed downtown early am and it was knee-thigh, occ waist on sets. water was coldd. forecasting wind swell is really difficult. unless it's a decent ground swell coming, i don't pay much attention to the forecasts. i pretty much just check the winds the night before and that helps me decide if i get up early to check it or not.

No seriously guys, this is a legitimate complaint. I live far enough away from the beach that I need about a two week planning window. I have a job at a consulting firm, take a spinning class twice a week, and have to walk my labradoodle. I can't just miss an important meeting, or worse, my spinning class, because the forecast is "likely" to be chest high and clean. I can't leave my labradoodle home alone on a moments notice to take off for the beach just because a thigh high forecast jumped to being chest to head. He needs to be checked into a dog hotel, otherwise he gets traumatized and scratches my mauve, suede sofas. Also, the surf reports need to be updated hourly, with more specific locations so when I'm driving to the beach in my BMW, I can check swellinfo on my iphone while I'm having a conference call on my bluetooth and know exactly where I need to go to get the best waves. It's really not too much to ask to be able to plan my surfing days weeks ahead around my own schedule and be able to go to the best spot with no work done on my part.
