    Rhode Island

I'm taking a vacation to Narragansett Beach and was wondering if anyone here knew of any good spots in and around where I am staying.

Narragansett town Beach is probably your best bet in that area.
    Havent heard anything about Scarborough.
Point Judith by the lighthouse is known as being a top spot when there is some swell, but it has rocks and suited for advanced surfers who are familiar with that break, so I wouldnt suggest it for a visitor.
Narragansett is good though. Just dont expect it to be going off, and be prepared to be surfing with plenty of company on a nice summer day.

Here is a link to a great cam I used to check out the surf back in the day.

Hi, I'm a new poster but just wanted to say I agree with the above. I surf all of these beaches regularly. Narragansett town beach is pretty good if it's working, although closeouts are very common there. In the Summer the problem is that they only allow surfing in the far West corner of the beach. This often puts you in with A LOT of people that don't know what they are doing, and I've seen a lot of people get injured (including myself years ago) by boards flying everywhere. The same is true for 1st beach in Newport. Lifeguards are on duty until 6 pm, but after that the entire beach is open.
Scarborough is an option sometimes, but again, lifeguards until 6. Waves are okay there, but it's still an option if Nar. is mobbed.
Point Judith is great when it's working but it really has to be bigger, and you can't really surf it safely (unless you know where every big rock is) at low tide.
Another option is Newport (about 20-30 min by car to the East), I would stay away from Ruggles unless you really, really know what you are doing. It's one of the best places on the East coast, but there is heavy localism there. It's worth the trip to see it though if waves come in. 2nd beach generally has a nicer wave than 1st beach, but Summer crowds are usually heavy. Also, the seaweed at 1st and 2nd has been brutal this year; worst I have ever seen, and loaded with sea lice. I've been bit a million times so bring a springsuit if you plan to go there.
The other option is Matunuck, which is about 15 min West of Nar. by car. Great longboarding spot, but it can be a little crowded (although it's mostly locals depending on the time of day, and they tend to be pretty nice if you are). You can find all of these spots on nesurf.com
I hope this helps, and I hope the weather comes in for ya.
