Ocean Waves Campground or Rodanthe Watersports and Campground for next week?

Your thoughts, go.



ALSO, I could possibly camp at the Frisco NPS, but it looks like the winds and surf would be better further north (Rodanthe). Is this typically true or should I stick to Frisco?

We stayed at Rodanthe Watersports one time and it was weird. We got there really late, like 1am and there was nobody there to pay but there were other campers, so we set up our tent, then in the morning there was nobody there to pay again so we broke down our tent and put it in the car and surfed all day then drove home. Was trying to pay but there was no one to pay! Maybe it's b/c it was in the winter, I dunno.

Camped at Frisco back in July - It was alright, too many RVs and few trees. If the conditions at Frisco isn't good, you always could drive 15 minutes north to Buxton. Heard that there were better campground in Buxton?

From looking at a map, it appears that staying in Buxton would give you the chance to go to either an E or S facing beach depending on what works best for wind and swell direction. In Rodanthe, you are limited to the E facing beach.

sw wind is more sideshore in buxton ,seen a lot of the buxton crew in rodanthe this summer. If that means anything

I go camping at ocean waves at least three times a year. It is great!!! A bajillion times cheaper then KOA. Tent sites are only like 28$ as opposed to like 60$ at KOA. It is more of an RV park but if you are down there to surf you will probably be drinving to S-turns anyway. It does break there but it is kinda far out. And a little messy.

actually, I called there and their tent sites are full. So now its between Rodanthe Watersports and Campground, Frisco NPS, Oregon Inlet NPS, or maybe Cape Woods in Buxton.

I camped at Frisco Woods for years - it has expanded greatly since the early years (pre-Bubbas BBQ and when Bubba was still around - really good eats back then).
