I have been checking the surf down in WB area this whole past week. I saw some waist to chest high conditions down there, but OBX was beautiful!
What swell angle did that come in from? Why did southern NC get missed so bad? I mean, I know OBX is always better, but the difference between the two on that swell was miles apart... crazy.
It may not be so much as the swell angle but swell decay. Since we have a continental shelf on the East Coast, there can be a significant decrease in the size of the swell once it reaches shore from one area to another. Places like Georgia and South Carolina are so far from shelf, they seldom get anything at all. But OBX is about 20 miles from the shelf thus there is significantly less decay. I think Ocean City is about 40 miles from the shelf.
