    Boosting Air

What's up guys, I've been bodyboarding for about the last 7 yrs and been really progressing in the last 5. I surf all year round and travel as much as I can whenever I can. I've tried to expose myself to as many types of waves as possible along the way. Points, reefs, shorebreaks and of course the local favorite beachbreak and sandbars. I can pull into barrels and spin off 360s. My question is how the f*@% do I boost some air. I watch the videos and seen the pro's when the come to town for the bodyboarding contest but I cant seem to project the type of speed and energy needed to boost off the lip. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

Very good question. I have no clue! Each time I get on a wave I forget to boost airs because I enjoy the ride so much. But Occasionally I might get off the wave and catch a little zero-gee. But not flying really. But try and try again.

    Cool

I've been going hard at it everytime the surf is head high or better. I know that you have to generate alot of speed, but what do I do when I hit the lip of the wave? The lack of response indicates that not alot of people are boosting or you just don't want to but a brotha on. Which I can respect, no one wants to give up thier bag of tricks but, please if your catching air out there point me in the right direction!!!!!!!!!

boosting your airs has a lot to do with your weight. Being only a hundred pounds i can boost air on prettymuch anynthing over stomach to chest high. Above all things timing is key. If you hit the sections at that perfect time you are bound to get some air. Also just be constantly trying like. Your not going to read any of these and all of a sudden be able to get in the air, you have to just be constantly trying new things and eventually you will get it. Your board also play a large role, smaller boards make it easier to air. I have also ridden both types of tails and feel that a crescent tail is much easier to get speed and air on as opposed to a bat tail.

Very good advice.....I'm 5'9 and weight 190lbs. I ride a Mike Stewart 42.5 cresent tail and the closest I come to boosting is when its head high to overhead and I drop in, carve up the face of the wave torque around as if to do a 360 then push off the lip of the wave and air drop onto the flats. I know that this isnt the proper way to do it but its the closest I've gotten. The first time I did this was by mistake but I was stoked because I thought that I was getting close to getting it. I want to catch some serious air....I'm talking Mitch Rawlings, Ben Player type of s#*t....I know , I know this is the eastcoast and it only get overhead 5 time a year at best..and beachbreaks closeout way too fast to find a boostable section..... but I'm stubborn and won't quit until I get it... So if anybody has a jetski and is willing to tow my fat ass into some waist high mushburgers so I can get some hangtime I would really appreiciate it.....I will compensate with Beer and Tequila!!!!

Thanks to all who reponded to this thread and help shine some light on this issue..
