I'd like to hear njsurfer42's reasoning for why religion and surfing do not mix. By the way njsurfer42, most Christians would not consider themselves religious and most would probly speak out against religion. Christians would consider themselves to be spiritual. It's obvious that you've denied something that you know nothing about. I'll take that back if you can explain the Gospel to me.

no, you can be happy without my particular "brand" of spirituality. I never said you can't. You can, in a worldly sense. In my opinion, you can be happy while you're here but you'll be trading that hapiness here for not so happy times later. Trust me I'm the first one to state that everyone is entitled to their opinion. I just wanted to make sure he know what he's denying before he denies it. Do you know? Not trying to "challenge" a debate just want to make sure people know about the gift they aren't willing to accept. It's free you know...

I'm the opposite. Eleven years of Catholic school have made me loathe Catholicism and pretty much all organized religions. I don't worry about the after life because I don't believe in heaven or hell. I also don't believe in Jesus being the "son of God", other than the possible historical figure. So we all believe what we want to and we live accordingly. The only thing I take away from Christianity is the "golden rule", which can be found in many religions under different variations.

you're right...i'm the asshole. i'm also stupid b/c i don't see how "representing the typical nj dumbass attitude" has anything to w/ the topic at hand.

my position is summarized thusly: religion is illogical & makes no sense. it has had a generally detrimental effect on the world as a whole (NOT talking individuals) & the world would prob. be better off w/out it.

i have to agree with you 100%. people will believe in whatever gets them through the day, but when it comes down to it, relgious belief systems are created to make their believers put all faith and all hope in something that they have no control over, and if they believe in this and follow its values and morals, everything will work out for them. what they fail to notice is that this accumulated belief in the "unknown hope," has made us loose all connection with believing in hope, peace, prosperity, health, and personal happiness right here on earth. people need to start believing in themselves, in other people, in the government, get more involved in government and democracy, and start making positve changes for humanity since we are all headed in the same direction, extinction. but i guess when we wipe out the human race through industy and religious wars, those who followed relgious mythology will go to heaven while the rest of us who actually came to their senses and tried to help the world through knowledge, science, and actual logical global morality, well, i guess we'll be screwed and burn in H*ll for trying to make logical global decisions.

you won't burn in hell for trying to make logical global decisions. You just won't be able to go to Heaven because you will still be with your sin. God's perfect and He can't be in the presence of sin or He wouldn't be perfect anymore. That's where Christ comes in...

I'd rather believe in God and when I die find out I was wrong, as opposed to not believing in God, dying and finding out I was wrong. But I know, in my heart, I'm right.

Think outside the world of Christianity. Us "outsiders" don't believe he performed any miracles, so there's nothing to explain. He was just another dude in my opinion, if he even walked the earth at all. You can believe he was the son of God and performed miracles, but I don't believe that.

What other sense is there. This IS my heaven, this is all I know and believe in, and I love it here. I'm not going to waste time with the so called afterlife because it doesn't exist.


BTW: Christian schooling from k-9, only church service I missed during the first 15 years of my life was if I was sick.

ok, fair enough. I'm not trying to convert you stoney. Just asking a question. If He was just another guy who lived then why all the fuss about Him? Why is there a BC and an AD? Why would His followers be dying in order to further the Truth? Just some rhetorical questions, not trying to get under your skin bro. You are very entitled to your opinion and I am mine. We can agree to disagree...

If this thread even makes one person question their beliefs then it is worth at least talking about...

Religion is for those who don't want to go to hell, Spirituality is for those who have already been there.
