Get a Fish thats about 6'0 that would be a good begginer board unless you are looking of a longboard.

    Go for a fellow Floridian.
My first board was a 7' 0" Kechele. I believe the name is 'Pug Performance' (www.kechelesurfboards.com/). It is great in every condition and still one of my favorite boards to ride years later. I have taught many friends to ride on that board with great success. It is very versitle and may handle chop a little better than a fish would.

The type of board you should get depends on the type of waves you want to ride as well as you height and weight. If you've been skim boarding, you could probably handle a short board but I agree with everyone else, you should check out the fun shaped boards, or fishes (especially for the gulf coast). Check out what Waterboyz has to offer, they have a pretty decent shaper and are located in Pensacola, FL.

    Smile new board

I would try to get a cheap used board to mess around on first. Probably go with a larger board till you get down the basic of it all. Then go out and buy ur dream board
