my parents finally are going to let me start surfing now that i graduated and am going into my freshmen year and im wondering what kind of board i should get
heres my information
ive been skim boarding for about 3 or 4 years now so my balance should be pretty good....any recomendations tips links will help my general area is west coast of florida but i constantly travel to the east coast of florida and travel to new york frequently
Go for a fellow Floridian.
My first board was a 7' 0" Kechele. I believe the name is 'Pug Performance' (www.kechelesurfboards.com/). It is great in every condition and still one of my favorite boards to ride years later. I have taught many friends to ride on that board with great success. It is very versitle and may handle chop a little better than a fish would.
The type of board you should get depends on the type of waves you want to ride as well as you height and weight. If you've been skim boarding, you could probably handle a short board but I agree with everyone else, you should check out the fun shaped boards, or fishes (especially for the gulf coast). Check out what Waterboyz has to offer, they have a pretty decent shaper and are located in Pensacola, FL.
