I know a guy who surfs, and thinks he rips and he's average-advanced at best. Not that I'm any good or any better, I certainly don't try to put that out there, I just want to love life and surf good waves. This guy on the other hand embodies everything I hate about surfers and people. The complete and utter bragger. He loves to talk about himself, the barrels he had yesterday, and the week before, and the pro's that he surfed/s with, who by my estimation, judging by the tempo of his monologue, had sex with by the end of their session. Any discussion reverts back to himself and how 'epic' that day or the other day was, and yeah, "i can't wait to get back to hawaii". He's awesome at anything you discuss, and in his eyes he is the most interesting man in the world. Whatever he and I are doing at the same time he needs to explain that he's had a better experience at some other piint in time and that this is just beneath him, but he'll give it a go.
I try really hard to like him, but as soon as I start a discussion he takes over talking about himself. He absolutely loves himself to the point that he should just f*ck himself. They have a Spanish phrase for people like this guy, "come meirda" look it up.
The world is full of buttheads, and unfortunately a lot of them surf. Easy to say, but hard to do, you should just keep on loving life and surfing for the pure joy of it and try not to let the braggarts, posers and other assorted dorks tick you off.
People like that make me nuts. Some say that it’s because of insecurity. I think it is because they are dumbasses. Every sentence out of their mouth begins with "I". They have no interest in anything except themselves. So everything has to be centered on them. It is how they relate to their world.
Obnoxious I can handle, but obnoxious and belligerent people ruin my good time (harshing my mellow man). The only thing you can do is say “good for you” and walk away.
