This tropical season has been relatively calm so far, however september is generally the time when we start seeing things pick up.
TD #4 developed today southeast of the Cape Verde Islands. This is way far away from the US at this point.
The official NHC forecast, takes TD4 into a tropical storm over the next 24 hours, and then gradually strenghtening over the next several days. The most important thing to keep an eye on here is the path. The official forecast, following closely to the GFS model, takes this storm on a Northwest path. This isn't the most ideal situation for East Coast swell, but would none the less put the storm in the East Coast swell window (likely more so for the northern half of the coast).
Just to throw out a possible situation. If this storm would follow the projected strength/path (which is sure to change), we are looking at a swell 7-9 days out.
So, finally some action in the tropics. Check out the Swellinfo wave maps (based on GFS model) tracking the storm.
