there was a 5-6 foot shark, a thresher i think, patrolling the lineup in ortley this morning circa 10am. the lifeguards kicked everyone out of the water...
they also been catching great whites, s as in plural, off the seaside pier all week.

i started reading this one year as my beach book. i had to put it away, as i was getting too freaked out. very interesting, tho. i keep meaning to revisit it...perhaps on a winter weekend getaway snowbaord trip to vermont. someplace far, far away from the ocean!
that said, jaws was just on.
"you're gonna need a bigger boat!"
Nice thread ( except for sh@tbird's remarkThanks to the OP for starting it. If this was Fl instead of NJ - Mid Atlantic, someone unfortunately probably would of ended up in the ER getting some stitches....
I think if they were catching great whites they would be in a bit of trouble, i believe they're on the endangered list. a fisherman caught a 7' "stray" pup about four years ago near indian river inlet and was levied fines and possible jail time.
the way he worded it gave me a mental image of a guy standing on the pier reeling in a 10 ft. great white... lol.
The only GW's I've been seen caught this year were way out by the Canyon. You're not reeling one of them in off a f*ckin pier. LOL
I once saw a Sunfish in the surf around Belmar area, this is not a pic of that one, but it looked just like this:

I also saw a Thresher in Deal last year around this time. Right between the two jetties at a well known spot. I know it was a Thresher b/c I've caught one before. It was cool as ****. Maybe because I longboard most of the time (as I was that day) and have the option of laying on my board out of the water, it wasn't that big of a scary thing for me.

I just grabbed my Snoopy pole and I am off for some GW action at the pier!
