Has anyone here ever been to Los Cabos, i have thinking about taking a surf trip there in 2 weeks. I am just wondering if anyone has any recomondations on where i should stay. I would prefer a surf resort where i can just walk out to the beach and surf. I wouldnt mind a little walk though. If you have ever been there please let me know your experience and what i need to know about it.
If you are not concerned about how much you are spending Cabo Surf Hotel is right on the beach, has a board rental shop and has two breaks within paddling distance, Old Man's is a beach break with rights and faster, shorter lefts, La Roca (The Rock) is a short board wave just to your left as you face the water. Surfline actually has some good recommendations about where to surf etc. in the area. There was a solid south swell when I was there in June. Head high + and fun. Good luck.

Went there in '07. had mucho fun-o. old man's (aka acapulquito) is right out in front of the cabo surf hotel. long but easy paddle out in the channel. it was definitely a longboard wave when i was there. long rights and short fast lefts. beware of the bfr (big freaken rock) in the middle of the cove. just go high and you are okay. the spot holds a lot of size and the face is not steep, but slopey. gets a little bit crowded, but three or four guys can ride the same wave. the crowd is mostly older folks and they were all very cool to chat with. Down the beach about a half a mile is a little point break called 'zippers'. crowd more high performance and less mellow. not a bad wave, though. starts off mushy and ratchets up in steepness. look out for rocks inside if you blow a takeoff or a tube closes on you. i sliced my big toe open there and felt really dumb surfing the rest of the week with it wrapped in black electrical tape. you can smell folks 'burning one' on the beach if there is an offshore breeze.
it gets freaken hot in the afternoons and your head will bake in the sun. i did most of my surfing at dawn patrol. it is really cool to look up from the lineup and see saguaro cactus on the hills above the beach. also be aware of these little box jellyfish that will light you up!
we stayed in the dreams los cabos all-inclusive. which was very nice, but perhaps a bit pricey. ( the wife arranged the trip) had to take a taxi to the waves (about a 5 mile trip). taxi fares were never the same pice twice, but the drivers were cool and careful with boards.
we also did some snorkeling and kayaking as well as ziplining in the desert canyons (called arroyos). snorkeling was awesome! the zip trip was cool because the last zip dropped us into a tequila distillery. mmm.
The best thing I ever did was buy The Surfers Guide to Baja. A few friends and I drove from San Diego down to Cabo and back several years ago. That book was our lifesaver. Shows you a bunch of breaks down there, where to stay, food, gas, etc. If theres a good South swell running that can wrap around the point and get into the breaks along the east cape, camping out along there could be the way to go for a couple nights. Plus, theres a lot of random reef breaks along the east cape that can light up at the right tide with absolutely no one out and offer some of the longest rides of your life. I would say decide where to stay based on the surf forecast.
Just wanted to bump this thread, since I did a quick search for topics about surfing Baja. I'm considering a trip to the Los Cabos area around late-May, and will probably surf the typical spots in the area, and Cerritos was one of them (others were Costa Azul, Old Mans, Zippers - all popular places). I wanted to know if you have any details/advice about surfing in this part of Mexico. Two things that stuck out for me on my early research were the crowds, typical resentment from locals, and consistent ground swells. The latter sure to make up for all the other cons.
been down there quite a few times.... and never had any kind of issue with the locals. just like anywhere else show a little respect, dont be a **** and you wont have any problems. If zippers is going you might have to wait a while for a good wave since the locals pretty much have it dialed, but the wait is well worth it when you get one. zippers the rock old mans, cerritos etc all get crowded but the crowds come and go throughout the day and theres a lot of waves that come in. and definitely dont be afraid to explore a little bit and find some breaks for yourself, cuz they are out there.
Hell yes! Mine is all dusty and stowed away for the past few years, but I would grab that book and head south a couple times a month for years man! What a great book! It is missing a few things, but it is the definitive guide to baja norte/sur. SICK BOOK!Originally Posted by SJerzSrfr

why not? dont the NW swells still hit the west side of cabo? there is swell all through march. Not much southern hemi activity yet, but baja gets plenty of swell that time of year. Ive never surfed down in Cabo, so maybe the swells miss the good spots that wrap under on the south side, but a quick drive north should provide plenty of action.
Trying to go in late-May, last season the Pacific had lots of activity in the early summer, so hopefully the trend continues (with my luck, maybe not), but just stoked on disappearing from here for a few days. Also, I heard water temps still tend to be on the cool side during that time. Some reviews say that on occassion it can still be around the mid 60s... you have anything to say about this?
