    I ride a 5'9 Al Merrick K-Small. Its pretty good for smaller mushier surf. JS Blackbox looks perfect for what you're talking about. Im currently looking into the Al Merrick Dumpster Diver, or the Stump from Rusty.
    How does the flyer do during hurricane season/the fall? I'm looking for a board that can handle bigger swells (chest to overhead+)

    The Flyers great for overhead waves. It handles very well and you can really whip it around.

    the thicker and wider (more planing surface) the better, look at THU biscuit or fishcuit, the TRD is what dane reynolds rides on occasion
