There are also plenty of places in the Hawaiian Islands to find uncrowded surf that are superior to the average East Coast day -- take today, e.g., 1-2 foot, if that.

Yeah but what I am saying is that you dont have to move to a place that has better surf like Hawaii. Yes not every place is crowded but if everyone on the eastcoast who surfed did it would be. So why should I move and crowd up some other break ?

I ride the occasional swell during the cold water months but for the most part it is not my thing. My 6/4 gets more use out in N. Oregon where the lines are long and the rides are exhausting Otherwise, the winter is why the tropics were created - winter swells, tropical waters.

alot of people cant move. as they have jobs on the east coast and its not that easy to pack up and move cross country and not have a job already lined up somewhere else. and the east coast is trullya lot of peoples lifes. so just stop dissing the east coast or you come on over here to the east side and see what happens when you talk like that at local breaks.

exactly just like living in the tropics or hawaii or the west coast has a certain ora about it so does the eastcoast. Its nice to visit these places but the NJ will always be my home

Wetsuits 500 dollars Not all of them my friend yeah you dont like coald water okay so exept the face you are a 3month'r and just get one with your life. I have surfed since I was a kid and I have grown up around the water my whole life. Surfing is life style not a sport as you call it . Baseball is a sport , Football is a sport. What seperates Surfing from a sport or Hobby is that Surfing has a culture or life style as a previously meantions. We have our own language and rules . You can tell who is new or a outsider by how they comduct themselves in and out of the water. From what I have read it seem in my opinon that you are a 3 month'r or a warm water warrior. You Sponge have fun but dont inderstand the emotional side that surfing can unfold to you . The water has alot to say I think you should start listening

So, I was in the water in VB a couple weekends ago. I'm looking up & down the coast from about 46th Street. I did a rough count from the beach for as far as I could see.

Must have been 400 people in the water, counting surfers & spongers. Obviously more than that, since I uldn't see all the way down to 1st Street, Croatan & Sandbridge.

I surfed Cabarete & I used to think 30 people in the water at Playa Encuentro was crowded. That was 5 years ago. Encuentro gets maybe double that now on any given halfway decent day.

Got me to thinkin'...

Rapidly expanding American population.
More affluence.
More leisure time.

Any projections or numbers for your local beach in, say, 5 years....? Or, what people will do when faced with potentially Waikiki-like conditions at every break on the east coast ? 8 riders on every wave ? Lottery tickets to surf ? Or will pollution just stuff the whole water sport genre in 10 or 20 years?

i know this sounds crazy, but I sometimes enjoy crowds (as long as its not all kooks). where I surf, there are maybe 3 people out at most on a really good day, and I dont have alot of friends that surf so I'm basically alone. every day its just me, and maybe some creepy old guy on funboard, so I'm welcome to more surfers in the water

LoL, Why would I have gone on in another thread about how great fall and spring are? People who play football pro/college/serious high school it's a LIFESTYLE. Their entire life revolves around it. Ask any serious baseball player vying for a college scholarship if it's simply a hobby. The fact is that you can actually do something with those sports with your life like get a scholarship. How man full rides to D1 Schools in surfing do you know of? Surfing's a hobby that nutcases like you take way tooo seriously. Whats the Differenec with a Grom starting out in Esa or NSSA and then to the pro tour as they get older compared to a guy getting a full paid ride playing college ball they to the Minor and so on to the Major.

Well I'll tell you somewheres from little legue to the Majors it becomes a job !!! How many pro surfer do you see living large? Yeah sponsors pay for alot but most pro surfers have some sort of product or something withe there name on it that the get a kick back from

Also you dont hear alot of baseball player about the emotional & physical connection they have when they step out on the feild and or when they hit home plate . All you here from them is they are noth happy with there contract so they are going on strike like 6 million dollars to play a kids game isnt enough money.
