and for the firewire review...ive never personally ridden one...but know a few ppl who have or who ride them now....everyone has loved the way they work....but ive been hearing more and more that these boards snap easily....hold up well to every day dings and stuff..but they snap in halfff
Buy a CNC machien isnt like going to home depot and picking one off the self they are very expensive probally in the 80-100k range it would guess and they are huge as well. Plus the process to program it properly to shaped what every you are working is very difficult and you need to know lots of differnt computer skill and math to program it properly.Originally Posted by ksurf3

I had one for a couple months. It was a 6'0x 18 3/4 x 2 1/4 alternator model.
It worked well in good waves with power from stomach to 1ft overhead. But so do most boards. Super fast and drivey, it carries a lot of speed out of turns. The best way i think to describe the parabolic stringers is that it enlarges the sweet spot for your foot placement. I found it bogged down on big round house turns, and needed to be surfed vertically in to pocket.
Durability was better then normal pu/pe but no where as good as my XTR. It developed normal presure dents on the deck, just like a pu/pe and after one month of solid use developed tail cancer.
I think my biggest problem with the board was that the dimensions didnt fit me, my surfing, or the breaks i surf NJ.
Now that they are making "custom" boards, I would try another one.
Price is kind of a bummer, but no more than a Merrick, or other name brand.
PS the past couple boards ive bought were from local shapers for 1/3 less the price of the firewire and ive gotten exactly what i want.

How does that justify your firewire review? It doesn't. SOunds you like are just trying to find an excuse to spout out your believes about pop outs and impose them upon others. If someone aski pop out vs hand shape board then great give you opinion it was asked for but to say firewire are trach cause they are pop outs is as insane as saying I am qualified to review them cause I have ridden handplanes in close out and a wooden plank at a mushy left. Firewire's are good surfboards as good as anything out there they cost a bit more and do not come with fins so that will add to the cost. They are durable and are hard to ding compared to a PU boards. The biggest benefits of a forewire board is the flex. You can flip it upside down and jump on the board and it flexes wont snap. This allows for more drive out of your turns especially off the bottom... They wiil stay whiter and lost longer than a typical pu board. So do your research see if you can try some out and make a educated decision before you drop 700 on a board this goes weather its a back yard jersey shaper or a big corp like CI or FW... If it feels good under your feet and you rip on it then get it who cares that there are a select few that spen there time on the computer that spout out "Dude thats a pop out" cause you wont hear that in the water ever if you rip on it.... Now that just my opinion .

Firewire boards snap so easy go to Povery beach on a big day you will see a few floating in the water so I highly doubt you can step on one upside down and it will flex without breaking. Yes they hold up a bit better to dings . I guess you only read what you want Cause I posted that I rode a few and I didnt like them cause they didnt fit my riding style plain and simple
And yes I will stand by my pops outs are junk opinion if you don't like oh well

So when poverty's is firing (even tough you say Dont name spots but you do anyway) What are you riding your alia or you longboard or are you gliding through the close out tube on you 22" wide quad. Come on bro you keep calling me names and dropping spots trying to make yourself sound so hard core when your not. So you live at the beach and have nothing better to do than to ride all kinds of different boards but not pop outs cause they arent hip... When poverty's is going off I am sure your at the cove gliding down the line with all the other kooks or sponging at broadway maybe breaking out your handplanes cause your so cool.. Or are you taking pics on the beach wishing you had the balls to paddle out then post the pics on the web to tell everyone how poverty's was sooo good obviously you dont surf there or you wouldnt be dropping the spot on this website... Or is it not crowded enough you would rather have all the del guys out there do then you can say its too crowded I'll go to Wildwood and surf the sand bar mush...
I've ridden firewires and say what I always do....support your local shaper. Here is why. Any board you get like CI, Rusty or other big name boards are not designed by people who surf our waves. Little things like the mid-point of the board make a HUGE difference on our typical surf. You will not get that from a 'pop-out' because they are designed for different waves. A firewire will work great in our good surf but as pointed out, ANY board will work good when it's offshore and head high.
If you are good enough to make a firewire work, the you are good enough to be able to explain to a local guys the characteristics you want in a custom that will be perfect for you.
Construction will determine feel...as well...I think the issue has been blurred a bit here...realistically, the beginnings of the stringerless parabolic rail/board was created way before Firewire in America by an American (eg., Bob Simmons, as well as others, etc.). Everyone is indebted to someone and FW is a refinement of years of thought and surfboard development. Further, FW hype/marketing strategy was/is excellent and really created a niche for their boards. They're definitely something to look at and appreciate in terms of use of technology and thought in design--controling flex is an important variable that is overlooked imho.
My concern is not so much with their use of CNCs or their thailand production, but with their quality control I saw right before they launched their rapid fire technology. Parabolic rails with gaps and filler, issues with their vent plugs. Further, with the loss of Bert Burger, I not quite sure if the direction is sound. However, speaking out the other side of my mouth, the Stealth version looks incredibly sweet...probably one I would try.

Yeah I live by the beach so what and I have the chance to try many types of boards it just makes me a more open minded surf. Maybe if you weren't so narrow minded you would undertand that but hay its like they say you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink

If you want the solution to all your problems, new technology while supporting the shapers, look to Coil surfboards... It's a somewhat secret vacuum bagged board (the boys are mum on explaining how it works). The shaper is flat out the best in working with you. I exchanged multiple emails with him regarding rails, type of wave I surf, ability, everything. It's flex is amazing, the board stays bright white after years of use, and they are rockets. I was a firewire rider until i found these...
PS: They are made in Florida, so they are even East Coast.
