Breaking News: Andy Irons Passes Away
Sad news has made its way into the Surfer offices this afternoon as we’re hearing confirmed reports that 3X World Champion Andy Irons has passed away.
At this time the cause of death is unknown, although sources inside the family say that he passed away en route from Puerto Rico to his home in Hawaii. The 32 year-old-hawaiian was deemed too ill to travel on his connecting flight from Texas to Hawaii and was grounded there. Unconfirmed reports say that he passed away in his Dallas hotel room.
SURFER will keep you posted as this story develops.
SURFER extends their sincerest condolences to the Irons family.
i just saw this on facebook & thought it was some kind of twisted joke at first, until i followed the links.
while i wasn't really a fan of his style, he was a great surfer. he'll be missed, for sure.
the really sad part is that he leaves behind a wife who is w/ child.
surfermag said it might be Dengue Fever, which is caused by the bite of mosquitoes, fever over 105, found in indo, northeastern australia, south and central america, sub saharan africa and southeast asia.
Rest in peace Andy. I was shocked to hear the news, you were the first professional I heard of in my short surfing life. I wanted to be you once I saw how your ripped.
My favorite segment of andy irons is from blue horizon when he's surfing that nasty below sea level reef break when he is super deep with foo fighters times like these editted in. Perfecto. To the surgeon. RIP
RIP Andy Irons. You are a lengend and one of my favorite surfers. I'll miss your yearly trips to Manasquan every summer and your legacy of a professional surfer. Condolences to Bruce and the rest of the family, Hawaiin community and friends.
