PR Trip

Whatsup. I am new here, but have lurked a bit. I am planning a surftrip from NJ to PR from December 26 to around January 4th or 5th. I am 17, but the dudes I am going with are 19 and 18. We are looking to fly into Aquadilla Airport and stay somewhere in Rincon where we can walk or bike to different breaks. Nothing fancy, but we don't want to be kidnapped either. We are looking for cheap cheap cheap so please help us out. So far I found the Rincon Inn (25 a night and decent reviews, but idk how close it is to a nice wave), but I would like something closer to a better break considering it is 2 miles from a legit break. Please help me out! Oh yeah, we are renting a car too, but not looking to drive that much. Any tips on how to save money, cheap airfair, where to eat or stay, or anything is appreciated.

Considering you want to bike to the breaks, 2 miles away will only take like 10 minutes? I'm not familiar with the PR area, but I assume if you're only there for about a week 25$ a night is a crazy low rate, even considering the places to stay in PR aren't the best. Saving money is staying at the Rincon Inn.

Also, are you planning on bringing your boards with you there? That'll cost you a crap load

Ya I figured 2 mile bikeride isnt that bad I ride my bike a couple miles sometime to get to a good break at home if its not good by my house. We are trying to stay for 2 weeks so I figured 25 a night is super super cheap and I guess I can't get much cheaper haha. It is 100 dollars per boardbag, so we're gunna try and stuff 4 boards in a bag. The roundtrip flight is about 600 dollars, is there a website where I can save money on roundtrip flights

You can most certainly try and put more than one board in a bad, but if they have to search it or say that it's too big, you will most likely have to pay for each board. If you and your buds are ok with walking or biking a little bit to the best breaks, then I'm sure you're set.

Is that round trip flight per person or for all of you guys? As for a website, i'm not 100% sure but you can hit up travelocity or expedia

Believe it or not, that might not be a bad price. I mean it is bad, but it might be in keeping with the market. I've been traveling to Nicaraqua( from Virginia Beach) for 5 years now. Up until this year I have always been able to find a flight on one of the websites you mentioned for between $450-$525. This year the best I could do is $775. Friends traveling to Belize(not to surf) are dealing with the same thing. Something is up with the market. Don't let that keep you from trying though. Good luck.

my first trip to puerto rico, we did not get a car, and it was the biggest mistake. Rincon can go through down periods, and when it does you will want a car to get to the Aguadilla area, where it rarely drops under chest high. Other times, Rincon can be overhead for days and days, but it is still worth having a car or else you will be walking quite a bit. Just a heads up, I've been through it. The problem though, is if you are under 25, the rental cars are much more expensive. Some places, rental cars aren't necessary, I would say you should have a car in Puerto Rico.

Doesn't seem too young. At this age, all 3 of you should have your license. Since Puerto Rico is U.S. territory, you're all in good company.

They might hit you with the under 25 fee... They will check your license when you pick up the car. Just giving you a heads up. This happened to me a while back, and we ended up paying a lot more then we thought we were going to have to.

what are the waves like in PR ? in the rincon area

mostly rights?
mostly lefts?
hollow?
steep or mushy ?
reef or beach break?

im intrested in going, i been to costa but dont know much about PR

also what do you like better CR or PR ???
