whats the deal with laguna beach

ever since i moved south into laguna a year ago.., i cant find any decent places to body board or surf , its seems all its good for is skim boards most of the time..ive tried from north laguna along the street beaches to south all the way to 9th st

is it the time orf year ? the weather? the tides? or is this normal... :

small waves that mostly break close to shore

i was a hoping for good spots that i could walk to every morning from where i live off PCH, but i have had to resort to driving to newport or san clemente

if anyone can offer some insight let me know..

Q: what beaches should i frequent to get a reasonable expectation , and is high or low tides better

Go to Salt Creek south of laguna, next to the ritz.

Here's a great resource:

i haven't done too much exploring in laguna... although i've seen pictures of nice clean waves that seem to break over reef... so maybe check those instead of the beaches. low to mid-incoming usually best for most spots in san clemente. there's usually a wave somewhere in newport at any tide.
