Type: Single Family Home Region: Central America - Nicaragua City: San Juan del Sur
Number of Bedrooms: 2 Sleeps: 6 Bathrooms: 1 Half Bathrooms: 0
Welcome to Mamacitas! Mamacitas is San Juan del Sur’s only true historic home available for rent that has a world class view and modern amenities. The house is a remodeled and modernized, two-bedroom, original plank wood home that four Nicaraguan families have lived and raised their kids in for the past 60 plus years. Recently installed security bars on all doors and windows. There is also a private locking storage area located on the property to secure surf boards, etc. It is located just a short five minute walk from downtown San Juan del Sur and the cool bay of San Juan.
The house has one of the best views in all of San Juan del Sur and is one of the few houses that YOU CAN HEAR THE WAVES OF THE OCEAN DAY AND NIGHT! There is no better place to catch the breathtaking nightly sunsets than in a hammock or at your own personal bar overlooking the entire bay.
Add that to the cool breeze that runs through the home's huge and plentiful screened windows and there is no need for unhealthy air conditioning. There are five quality fans all around the house and you will acclimatize in no time and limit the constant hot/cold struggle most tourists experience when staying in concrete ice blocks with air conditioning.
Best of all, you will have the opportunity to experience Nicaraguan living before this hillside gets bought up by developers. You have super friendly Nicaraguan neighbors and you can practice Spanish, play with the kids, dogs, and chickens and really dive into real Nicaragua while still having all the amenities like restaurants, bars, internet, etc. just a short five-minute walk down the hill. If you are looking for a unique experience "off the typical tourist trail", this is your place!
We keep our availability calendar up to date so check that out to see if your vacation fits the openings of the house.
The house sleeps up to 6 with 2 big beds and two mattresses that can be pulled out and you can sleep on those (but bring your own sleeping bags/linens for the 2 pull out mattresses). More if you want--HAVE FUN! Just please respect the neighbors and the house :)

Nicaragua is becoming a better known surf destination, yet still has much smaller crowds compared to Costa Rica, El Salvador, and Mexico. With an average of 300+ days per year of offshore winds attributed to the proximity of Lake Nicaragua, the surfing in Nicaragua remains optimal all day long, with the tides being your main deciding factor of when to paddle out. The best time for surfing in Nicaragua is May thru early December, which is when the most south swells hit Nicaragua’s Pacific coast.
San Juan del Sur’s beaches are a great place for all levels of surfers. The most popular and easily accessible surfing beach close to town is Playa Maderas, where both beginners and experts can find great waves.
A number of other surf breaks around San Juan del Sur and up and down the coast can only be accessed by boat. You can easily charter a boat for a full or half day in San Juan del Sur. If you are not traveling with your own board you can rent one at one of the surf shops in San Juan del Sur.
