2011 has only been so so for the East coast and Mid Atlantic. There has been mostly quick moving South wind swells, which have often left most of the swell energy out to sea. This weekend, however, a frontal system moved through that provided plenty of SE fetch to the Mid Atlantic. When you get that East component in the swell direction you feel the full brunt of the swell energy. WSW winds groomed things up for many areas in the Mid Atlantic all day Sunday providing arguably the best day of the year for the northern territories (Delmarva and New Jersey).
