It is that time of year again, where we see those strong NW winds blow the surf flat on the east coast, while pumping surf heads down to the Caribbean Islands.
Late Tuesday night into Wednesday a strong low pressure developed off the Northeast Coast. This setup a quick shot of moderate sized 3-4-5 ft N/NE ground swell for exposed East Coast areas, but more significantly, a solid fetch of 20-30kt+ N/NW winds developed on the backside of the system. This will send NNW swell reaching Puerto Rico on Friday with best spots seeing well overhead surf.
This swell will gradually fade down through Sunday, but then another shot of reinforcements are on tap for Monday. Check out the Swellinfo Caribbean Wave Maps below and zoom into the high resolution Puerto Rico model for a closer view.
