About Tropical Storm Names

The World Meteorological Organization maintains and updates the list of tropical storm names. There are 6 years of names, which are continuously rotated, whereby the names in 2008 will again be used in 2014. The exception is when there is a storm that has been extremely destructive and/or fatal. In such cases, the storms name is retired to prevent sensitivity surrounding it's devastating impact. In the event that more than 21 named tropical storms occur in a seas, then subsequent storms will take names from the Greek alphabet - Alpha, Beta, Gamma, and so on. Follow this link to view the retired hurricane names.
