finally after almost 30 yrs i got my old man back into the water! although now he realizes how hard surfing can be, for years he yelled at me when to go not go, paddle drop in etc, and he cant even paddle the board with out rolling off his belly. he's been bittin by the bug again and now i need to find him his own board, any direction would help, 60 yrs old, not the best balance, outta shape. oh yeah, his last board was a 9'0" greg noll da cat, if any body knows of where one is in the midatlantic area, hed love to get another one. although this time hed probaly leave it on the wall!
I would have to say a softtop board would be his best bet.Sunset makes a pretty decent one.Sounds like his main goal is to just stand up so that would probably serve him justice.
My vote is for either an Austin Soul Glide, Weber Performer or something else along those lines. I wouldn't go less than 23" wide.
What about a kayak? Those things are so much fun this time of year in small surf. I see a lot of older dudes kayaking surf these days

I'm 54, you just have to realize you ain't 20 no more. I don't do the big stuff anymore- nothing bigger than head high or so. I surf Assateague, its safe & if I get in trouble there is help nearby. I love to watch it when it gets big, but I just do not have the abilty, nor will I risk that for my family. It's funny- if you watch a big day, there are very few surfers that know what they are doing & actually catch waves. Sounds like you dad needs a longboard- I ride a 9'0 & I have a 8'0 hybrid for steeper days- Cheers
thanks for the info, hes like a kid doing for the first time again, definitly a log, prolbably 9 ish, i'm sure he'll have something by next weekend where he'll be in assateague.
He should pick up where he left or maybe a little bigger like 9'4 maybe 9'6 in a single fin and he should have no issue catchin waves , paddleing Ect. Woody's in Rio Grande & N Wildwood , and Heritage Surf shop has and can get you any longboard u need Far as the Da Cat they are next to impossible to find any more . My search for one has been one epic fail so far
I saw an interview with Kelly a few months back and he was saying that at 39, he thinks his best surfing is in front of him for at least another 5 or 6 years. Derek Ho just started doing airs in his mid 50s. It;'s crazy what your body can do if you take care of it. 60 is like the new 40. Keep surfing and Stay Above the Weather!!
