kid has talent, do doubt about it. i'm kinda concerned about the fact that he appears to have no etiquette whatsoever, as i counted at least 3 times in that clip that he burned other surfers...either it was never taught to him or he's already getting that "better than everyone else" mentality that allows low-level pros to justify dropping in on people. he also seems like he's trying too hard. granted, i don't know the kid & will likely never meet him. but the fact that he's 8 & stickered up like a billboard, & that (to my mind) he seemed so focused...more intent on "ripping" than just having fun. sad. semi-old fart grumpyness aside, i sincerely miss being a grom when every day was at least chest high or better...
Great soundtrack for an 8 year old's promo clip, "Gutter Music". Gotta get that money, yo. All "homie" needs now is a "do-rag" and a "gat" to go along with his surfboard. Then he'll be keeping it "real" over at the local grade school. Hilarious.
That little grom is going to be staying above the lip, and the weather, for many years to come!! Sick vid!
With his size, he's probably used to surfing the inside reforms that most of the time nobody wants, so he hardly ever has to compete for waves. I've met him before, he's just like any other 8 y/o kid who likes to have fun
Cool clip... we'll be seeing a lot more of him, I'm sure. At 8 years old, I'd give him a pass on the drop-ins. WTF... it's only knee high anyway.
no one's hating on him,and how do you gauge 'better than you?' i don't think you are an ASP judge, and even they are narrow-minded as to what is 'better.' it's like the 5-year-old who plays blues guitar and is considered 'better' than eric clapton.well,i disagree, since knowing blues, eric clapton has a full lifetime of it. little kid child star prodigies most often don't carry it through to adulthood,so,maybe we just hope he has a strong foundation and does not become a victim of 'too-much,too-soon.' of course there are exceptions,mozart,slater,etc.. a la at his age and size he could be some sort of a circus act freak, but what happens when he grows and he's not a cute little kid anymore? no guarantees. 42's correct,so many idiots interpret and don't actually read the posts they reply to,or are just pissed off at this flat summer like me,or are just nasty. i started a thread joking that in light of it the name of the site should be changed to 'no-swell info,' and no one got it or thought it was funny and inferred that i was criticising the site.i was venting frustration at the ocean, and since there has been and is no swell anywhere in sight we should start calling it that, because there is no swell info. yeah, worst thread ever, sorry.
Yeah, while there are a few exceptions, the personalities on this message board are very stiff for a group of laid back surfers. People on this board take surfing and life very seriously. Nah well...
the real star of this thread is that GIF. I nearly **** myself watching it over and over again. The more you watch it, the funnier it gets.
NJSurfer42 - I am 100% on ripping harder, which is why i love surfing. I don't do it to have fun, meaning just cruise on a funboard at sunset, i do it because i want to be the best i can possibly be, because i know i can be better. there is nothing more fun than that to me - which is why i surf as much as possible and miss many personal events in my life. You should check out the movie One Track Mind, by the moonshine conspiracy, its a great movie (they made thicker than water, shelter, and september sessions ect) and they talk to the top surfers in the world (competitively) and ask them why they love surfing. Kudos to this kid, i hope he continues to kill it
