Has anyone tried any of that clear grip tape-like traction (substituted for wax) on their boards? I wanted some opinions and possible recommendations before I go ahead and try it. Thanks
Funny I just asked that question on another board. I used to use the spray on stuff and it was great. It did get dirty though so I think the clear grip would be way better. It is expensive, would cost me $55 for a 6 foot board to cover the whole deck. They say I don't need that much but I use every inch of my deck and I would hate to hit a slick spot. I'm in the same boat, still considering it.
and are there different companies making them so there are options? (and to drive down price through competition)
Sticky bumps BLAH.....Magma wax is the best ever. try it....u won't use anything else. The wax has colored beads in it so you can tell what temp it is. Sticky as hell when it needs to be. And it has a coconut smell. Magma is owned by X-trak. Plus my boy is the east coast rep for magma and i have boxes of it. It should be available at your local surf shop...if it's not have them order it. They will order it eventually anyway as its the latest in wax technology.
Magma is SUPER sticky, but it wears off at least twice as fast as sticky bumps or sex wax, so i only use it as a top-top-coat to sticky bumps now.
So your boy is a rep? I feel like your recommendation of the brand is a conflict of interest... Back to the clear grip...wouldn't that stuff cut your nips if you weren't wearing a rash guard?
Thanks Darealm for bringing this discussion back on track. That's what I am saying: Does this new clear grip not cut nips? Does it work in all temps? How long will it last on my board, and keep its stickiness? etc...
Yes my boy is the east coast rep. Yep it is a conflict of interest. The conflict is the clear grip is garbage. I dunno if this is newer improved clear grip but the stuff i have seen is garbage. After a month or so it will looks sooo dirty that you will hate it. Then you will try to peel it off and want to kill yourself during the process. After you struggled to remove all of it (cause it will tear in pieces and not come off in one shot). You will see the area that that was covered was UV protected and the rest of your board isn't. So you will have a nice multi-color board. And the part about the nips getting sensitive. Well if you have good posture and know how to paddle then your nips shouldn't be touching the board at all anyway. Arch that back my man! My nips use to get sore when i was a grom when I didn't know how to position myself on my board. epidemicepic, What temp were you using? I have not had one problem with MAGMA rubbing off quickly. Maybe try the base coat. I can send you a few bars if you like so you can try it out.
i ordered magma wax from cali back when they were just starting to advertise it i used it once during that big noreaster we had back in feb since then never used anything else
