Could be an interesting video. I may have missed it but when does it come out?

Maybe it's just me, but every movie that I've seen keith malloy in or he has a part of his really good.

    baby, i'm [the] board

there is something very primal about feeling the wave pick you up, propel you forward and swirl around you with no conveyance, no floatation...just you and the water dancing delicately between losing the surge and being tossed on your head. movie looks interesting

That does look pretty sick. Bodysurfing is a lot of fun when it's flat, I'd like to pick up a pair of fins and a handplane sometime.

    Marky Mark is sick.

Has anyone else gotten weird reactions from lifeguards and other surfers when you go bodysurf? It's amazing how few people do it on the east coast, or anywhere for that matter. I friggen love it, especially at chest-head high, kinda hollow, kinda closing out. You're hardly ever gonna 'make the barrel', so you just sort of enjoy the second or two of being in the tube before the spin cycle starts. :)

this is it exactly. i really prefer body surfing in medium sized surf, stomach high & up, b/c you just get a better ride. it's super fun & a totally different feeling than we're all used to. there's so much more room in the line-up when you're body surfing as well. i took my fins out one afternoon this summer when we had a bit of swell in july b/c, after surfing mostly alone in the morning, i just didn't want to deal w/ the midafternoon crowd hassles. & i had a blast! & i didn't feel as though it were crowded at all, which of course it was...
this film looks pretty awesome...i'm stoked to see it. i've always been a ittle confused by the concept of competitive body surfing, though.

Don't know if I could sit through a whole film about bodysurfing... but I love it. Through the entire summer I just keep fins in my truck and never miss even the tiniest swell, even the ones that are only there for a tide. I like to go on those sloppy, onshore bowly days best, when board surfing just frustrates me. You'd be surprised how fun it can make a day like that. I don't use handplanes... just my personal preference.

Right on man! I think it feels like there's so much more room because you don't need a perfect wave, or even a long one. I'll take a 4 ft closeout barrel and just love it. Who cares if it only lasts a few seconds. No cutbacks needed!
I'm with ya on the contest thing as well. I know some people are incredible, but I personally enjoy getting away from the competitive attitudes. When I'm sick of crowds and drop-ins, etc, that's when it feels great to ditch all that stuff and throw some fins on. I suppose that's just my personal view, though, though it's cool to know I'm not the only one who feels that way.
Do you ever do the 'underwater takeoff' thing? I used to hit this spot on South Shore HI, and this Japanese guy would show up every day and glide up into the wave from below. Watching this from underwater is one of the coolest things I've ever seen in surfing. I've tried to do it but usually f' up the timing and miss the wave.

i have tried it, but i can never seem to get it right...i've gone head first into the bottom a bunch of times trying it & have sorta given up on it...it's definitely a really cool thing to see.

Surfing is a relatively safe sport. Aside from a few stitches and a torn knee ligament, I've surfed for most of my life and I'm still going strong.

But... by FAR my most serious injury was bodysurfing... I got a serious concussion a few years ago when I got a knee to the head from a bodyboarder who dropped in on me. I shook it off and kept going... even surfed later that day. But the next day I couldn't even remember my name. Ended up in the hospital next morning and couldn't even stand up straight. Made some calls in to work to say I wasn't coming, but don't even remember making them.

    "Post concussion syndrome." Weird sh:t....

hapuna beach, south west big island

a great place for body surfing because it has the hawaii deep water power even in small waves but has a sandy bottom (instead of the usual lava or coral). you don't even have to kick much...but the back suction on yer feet will pull yer fins right off too....

I bodyboard there and yea the breaks are tough especially after the dunes. I think Irene helped out a lot but man I can't imagine bodysurfing there

I can't wait to see this movie! I grew up bodysurfing a couple of miles north of the wedge in newport Beach. I still have the Churchill fins I got for my 14th birthday. I've bodyboarded as well and now I'm trying to learn to surf.

But, on days when I'm swimming in shore break, I bodysurf and still love it.

I'll be first in line when this film comes out.
