Just plain dumb. There used to be a law against surfing in Chicago, but I thought they overturned it.

The surfer violated a city ordance, was in the park when it was closed & recieved a disorderly conduct charge. Like it or not, we all live in society of laws. The surfer simply violated the law. Surfing Lake Michigan in the dead of winter is something that would bring attention to anyone. It's not a governemnt conspiracy, its simply the law. The same Police Officers would risk their lives to help him if he needed it & he becomes disorderly when confronted?

The presence of said law is the base of this discussion.

I think most of the charge stems from the fact that he was defiant and went into "I'm a surfer and this is my right! Punk Rock!" mode when confronted (according to the article).

They have seasons where you're allowed to surf mainly because they're undermanned (due to the lack of people going into that frigid water) during certain seasons. People can't swim there either - it's not just limited to surfing.

The guy knew he was getting into it to go for a surf - it is what it is.

"the law is an ass," as someone once said.
I doubt if any of the cops on the scene would risk their lives for a surfer in that situation.

How is the law wrong? If anything is wrong, its a surfer that would do something that stupid. What offends me in this thread, is the attitude towards Police Officers. You're right, you may not know what a Police Officer is willing to do until you really need one.

I hope this guy is not serious. I'm guessing his daddy is a police officer.
