So I finally decided to get around to scraping two of my boards off today, I've been putting it off for a while. I had such a solid base that I didn't really feel the need to, but they were both super brown since the last time I scraped them was about June or July. I realized that I use way too much wax, gonna try and work on that.

Also, how do you guys dispose of your old wax? I used to just throw it out but I'd rather find a more eco friendly way to get rid of it. Maybe melt it and try and make it into new bars, not sure if it will be sticky though. Surf shops should have an old wax drop box or something haha.

Hello, my name is Kahuna Kai, and I too am a chronic over waxer. One would think that wax would be easily recyclable, yet I have never heard of wax recycling. What's up with that? I like to melt down my old wax in to bars and use it to wax windshields of non locals at my home break. Then I spray paint, "Locals Only" all over their ride and knife all four tires.
Hey guys, I brought the coffee this week. My name is sheetglass, and I too am a chronic overwaxer. Either that or a chronic board-cleaning procrastinator. I like to make little golems out of my old wax and leave them around the places I surf.
Hi Kahuna... I have to ask Kahuna... please... not to show pictures of his excess wax. It makes me feel... dirty.
Hi sheetglass... I just wanted to offer this to the group... never scrape your old wax off your board. Just keep building it up. Scraping it off only makes you have to wax more. And once that train starts a rollin' you just can't stop it. Besides... everybody knows wax floats. So built up wax makes your board more buoyant. So it's easier to paddle...
Yeah, I hear you. It really starts to affect your personal relationships, which makes you want to wax more, which just compounds the problem. It's a vicious cycle. Anyone ever try the roughsanding-the-deck option for traction rather than using wax?
im more of a social waxer. if you find yourself waxing things that are not surfboards, seek help. there is nothing better than a good friend. talk it out, youll feel better. dont let your waxing problem mess up your personal life.
I too suffer from OCW. it became a ritual to wax up b4 every sesh. just ordered some dream cream, so looks like i'll be strippin' my babies.
I tried recycling a ball of wax that big to use again. i remelted it until it was all liquid, added some fresh bees wax and cocoanut butter. the results weren't to great. turns out stale wax, is always stale wax.
I sometimes wax the bottom of my feet and my traction pad b/c I saw Taylor Knox do it- do I have a problem or if I'm asking if I have a problem does that mean I don't have a problem?
Yes... if you're waxing yourself, you have a problem. It starts at your feet, then you start waxing your hands... then your face and neck... then...
I stopped waxing my boards, and started just waxing my chest and feet instead. Saves on wax costs. I have several boards, but only one chest and one pair of feet...... Except I have a hairy chest...so it's very uncomfortable, and unsightly.
i always melt it down and make it into a reusable bar. it looks nasty, and doesnt bead up, but if you layer it than comb it you can keep on using it. other than that it piles up on my garage floor!
Yeah I wasn't sure if it was possible to bring back the stickyness or not. Maybe I'll just start to compile the worlds largest ball of surf wax.
