surfer dead in deal

Didn't Rob Machado (spelling?) break his ankle or leg in ankle high surf in wrightsville beach at a lame surf benefit and had to go through a series of surgeries and 6 months of intesnse physical therapy/recovery?

i broke my neck in waste high surf. He could have taken a really small wave on a longboard and dove off, hit his head, broke his neck and died instantly.

whoever wrote that was a complete idiot. why would they include all this mumbojumbo at the end:

On the jetty, officials surrounded the victim’s body, which was covered in a sheet.

 

I witnessed a very similar situation on New Smyrna Beach last Hurricane Season, guy got pulled from the water, already dead, but they tried reviving him for over 30 minutes on the beach while paramedics arrived, they pumped his chest all the way into the ambulance but he never responded. He was a school teacher in the area and I believe it was one of his students who pulled him from the water. It was one of those days where it was about head high, maybe a little larger and very dumpy, the rip tide was pretty nasty, just sucked seeing that, could happen to anybody.

burning/shooting pains through arms and legs
crawl out of water
lifeguard sitting on stand talking to some 12 year old in a bikini
collapse next to my girlfriends towel
she's a chiropractor
tell her i hit my head
we had x-rays within 20 mins
didn't show up
walked around for 3 days getting adjusted for "whiplash"
worst pain experienced in my life, my pupils were dialated
didnt get any better got catscan on third day
they came out with a stretcher to take me to the ER
broken C7 vert
"no thanks I'll drive myself"
go to ER, neck brace and offer of morphine for pain
no pills, recovering addict
go to orthopedic surgeon
no surgery, wear brace and no activity for 6 months
overall no lasting effects
married the chiropractor.

Thank God that He had His hand on me that day. I could have died or worse been paralyzed from the neck down.

 

The article never said they found a surfboard... was he even surfing? Maybe he was swimming since it was so flat and limited currents... I agree with the health condition comment- he must have had a heart attack or something... Either that or was pulled down by a shark or sea otter. ~RIP~

in his 40s.... could easily be a heart attack.

 

def some bad journalism..didn't say if the guy had bruises or anything, or where his car was at the time... but i am familiar with that beach, and the city never fixed the stairs going down to the beach after hurricane Irene.. so its very possible he took a nice tumble..

maybe he was on a SUP, getting exercise, had heart attack or fell and smacked his head on a rock. it was really low tide around that time yesterday. i was on the beach at hathaway ave with my dog about 530pm.
