I have the Patagonia R3 with dual neck gaskets. It fits great everywhere except the neck. I get a rash everytime I wear it even with a rashguard underneath. I'm thinking of trimming off the top 1 cm with some sharp scissors to see if that helps. Is there a better way to fix this? Thanks in advance for the input.

unless you know how to sew i would never cut a wetsuit. try rubbing Vaseline on your neck before you go out. Lube never hurts!

You guys are hilarious. The suit was a gift, one leftover from a bulk purchase being tested by a gov't organization. My own experience shows the neck is too tight. I'll try the lube first. Thanks for the tip

You either want the wetsuit to stick like glue, or slide effortlessly.

I would never put vasoline in my wetsuit, but a lot of people say they do. Before I'd do that, I'd try taping my neck.

This stuff is made for wetsuits...

If all else fails, and you're about to cut the suit, before you do, try scuffing up the area that bugs you with 80 grit 'till it's soft and fuzzy.

do not ever use VASELINE on a wetsuit. Remember that time you used vaseline and a condom when you were banging your girlfriend?....and now you have a kid? Same thing will happen. Sort of. Not the best example. But petroleum products will degrade rubbers including synthetics like neoprene, so don't do it.

    Off topic, but...
Gov't spending on American products, purchased from a local surfshop helps everyone in the biz. Just sayin'

I have used Vaseline to protect against wetsuit rashes since the late 70's with no problem/damage to the suit.

    try mineral oil...

I have used mineral oil - either baby oil or Banana Boat spf 15 dark tanning oil - for years with no problem. I rub some on my underarms and if necessary neck and voila - no rash.

Maybe try not turning your head!

they make stuff called 'suit juice' that works well... in the past I have just spread some shampoo over the area that is rashing before suiting up (my armpits a few suits ago)- works like a charm... i don't know if its good for the suit, but it sure does make it smell better.

A quick google search came up with this...

"You can use a little beeswax or special wetsuit lube on the zip, to prevent it from snagging the material. Never, ever use petroleum jelly." Runner's World

“Trislide will not damage the neoprene materials, when compared to the deterioration cause by commonly used petroleum jelly, other petroleum based products and/or cooking sprays.”* Amateur Endurance

"Whatever the case, do not use Vaseline. The chemicals in petroleum jelly can damage the material of the suit." eHow article

"But please note that petroleum jelly can damage neoprene suits." WaterAid; Triathlon Training Tips

"Do not use petroleum jelly, cooking spray, or other other oils on your wetsuit - it will cause the neoprene to break down" Triathlon Training for Dummies

Get a stick of Body Glide from any local sports store, runners use it in marathons to prevent rashes. It works perfectly and comes like a little deodorant stick that you can just rub on.
