it looks like i didn't have to adjust the model output at all. What was the biggest it got in myrtle from this swell?
Long period GROUND swell doesn't make it through long bay, unless it is sitting a few hundred miles off SSE of us. Long period moderate swell can get through, much like we saw a few weeks ago. Folly was good, and NC was good, the grand strand was a large let down like you said. Fortunately after many years of being let down like that and analyzing, I figured it was worth gassing up the ride for a good session at other chosen locations. It has to deal with the Continental Shelf, angle of the storm, tide, wind of course. For some reason that amount of energy always has a hard time getting through. Sure would make a good study..The season looks to be strong in Aug. so save those sick work hurricane swell days to mish somewhere that can accompany the swell very well. However, if a hurricance is lodged 300-800 miles SSE of us and conditions are right, it might not be as big as some other locations as some of the more exposed breaks ( ie: wb), but will be super fun and not worth traveling.
I only paddled out one day for really glassy, but super small, The biggest wave that day was like waist.
definitely would've scored a couple hours either way. folly was ok saturday, closing out alot, but definitely some head high sets sneaking through. and almost all of NC got it good. never seen waves bigger than stomach/chest on the grand strand.
i surfed the pawleys peir fri. am and it was a solid chest high. probably some of the best shaped waves i,ve seen there in a long time. the great part was i was practically alone for 4 hours. i guess everyone was up north or down at the south end. then sat. am at carolina beach, and wb mon. am. the window for the grand stand only seemed like that one day. (fri) great for the middle of july!
Friday - Surfside/GC: Fun cleanish stomach to chest waves. Larger sets were mostly closing out, but make-able. Really fun and holding up for the fish all the way through the tide. Saturday - Surfside Chunky and much smaller. Maybe thigh to waist. Sunday - Myrtle Beach Fun looking lines mostly dumping on the beach, but a nice waist to stomach set every now and again coming off pier 14. Monday and Tuesday night sessions were even fun in Surfside. Breaking on the beach, but still showing a hint of the turning groundswell. Fun stuff even if it wasn't that great. Any waves are better than the rest of July.
thats a nice shot from surfside... i live in CB and friday was the best day i've seen here in almost two years. no wind, perfect glass and green barrels, until about 130pm when some storms rolled through. larger sets were definitely foot or so overhead. monday and tuesday were fun here as well w/ the swell still showing some. i had to go to charleston for the weekend and was surprised to see the size at folly, but like i said mostly closeouts. wish i couldve gotten pics, but my housing leaked a few weeks ago so i'm camera-less
nice pic surfsidesurfs...yeah, cb friday was nice. My bud left his big lens at home as well, and the last thing we wanted to do was turn around and grab it.. After all morning in the water there, I went out after some of those storms rolled through and it was a bit more sectiony on the wave face which made it a blast to square up on. Great July swell, and what is this we have south of us gaining some convection heading this way! defiently nice pic surfsides. but in WB we had some rare head high sets roll in but it was mostly stomach to chest. But at least we had waves for the contest.
