Why do surfers dislike bodyboarders? What is the logic, reason, or purpose for it? I would like to hear from both side.....surfers and bodyboarders.
surfers think that bodyboarders lack skill. Thus when an "unworthy" bodyboarder snakes a surfer it's a big deal. Not saying this is right, just saying this is what happens....
I dont like bodyboarders cause a pack of them killed my dog.... lol. I dont think that there is a general dislike of bodyboarders from surfers... but I do agree with surfsolo... I feel like there is a general consensus that bodyboarding takes less skill to enjoy the same waves that surfers do.
I'm a bodyboarder and I have friends who surf. Well at that. However, I have inadvertently pissed off plenty of surfers in VA beach just from being in the line up! Doesn't really bother me though. None of them tough guys got much to say when they see how boof my pecs are. On a serious note it's because bodyboarders drag their nuts. Disgusting.
It really does boil down to skill. It is without question harder to stand up on a surf board and ride a wave than it is to bodyboard. It's not quite the same as skiing vs snowboarding. Surfing uses a whole different skill set from bodyboarding once you stand up which revolves mostly around core balance.
At 16, I got into bodyboarding because I didn't have enough money for a surfboard and the east coast is what it is. Bought a Morey Boogieboard 156 with the logo branded in the skin. I met Tom Morey, and he's an amazing and brilliant guy. Still have that board and it's seen me through most of my life changes and has threaded all of them with the fun and thrill of surfing. My kids use it now. I've switched to surfing, and it was certainly more challenging and less forgiving. Having developed some proficiency at surfing, it seems the board you use is just a different tool for a different day. I've had the good fortune of meeting and surfing with some amazing watermen on the west coast. Perhaps what is most astounding is none of them limit themselves. These guys bodysurf with fins, bodyboard, longboard, shortboard, SUP. They are all in the lineup. It doesn't matter. By the bathhouse is the surfers memorial: Paraphrased, it says: This monument honors the past and present surfers who have embraced this beach, surf and comaraderie. Local surfers have shared their time, skills, and wisdom with all who have been interested in receiving them. Great surfers and fine men and women have grown up within this culture, and carry the positive traits learned here into their lives and those of the people around them. "Surf Well, Spread Aloha, Share Waves Without Judgement." I'm sure glad these people had the time of day for a bodyboarder who wanted to learn to surf! Aloha!
Aho. "Surf Well, Spread Aloha, Share Waves Without Judgement." ----- Beautiful! Thank You! Thanks to everyone who has responded so far.....I am grateful for your honesty.
My wife bodyboards. If anyone has a problem with that, let's talk.... This argument is complete cliché.
just wait...the wolves & trolls will find this thread. it calls to them like the one ring called to gollum.
turn around slow and don't look at it in the eyes!!..it will pass on its own. just search the forum..
its because they get in the way, since surfboards move a lot faster. i started bodyboarding when I was 10 cause my parents wouldn't buy me a surf board, switched to surfing when I turned 20 and never looked back. surfing requires more skills and is just more fun.
theres too much negative vibe on here lol.i dont see that out in the lineup.i always surf with spongers, they cool, they are people too!who gives a fuk what ur riden,if your havin a good time, then your havin a good time.im a surfer and iv seen some crazy spongers that catch the wave of the day all the time.i remember hurricane bill at the inlet, there was 1 sponger out there, around 730am and they snagged a solid 13ft shack and got spit out.the only one who got barreled that sesh,i was only out from 530to 830am,so not a long sesh
can't resist! i tired to keep lurking but I have to have my first \"why\" response to them asking why surfers think sponging is \"cute\".

you're an adult. it's time to stop crawling.

plain and simple hombre. I would never respect a grown a** man wiggling around on his stomach because he never had the cojones to learn how to stand up and walk for him self. same applies to wave riding...unless of course that man is wiggling his a** down a 20 ft face. then you can wiggle wherever you want.
there, my 2¢ is officially in the jar.
body boarding 1. its lame 2. what with the knee thing . like hey look me at me im on my knees 3:it requires no skill 4. its lame
a semi related point: A few years ago I rediscovered the awesomeness of the inflatable canvas raft. I take it out on summer days and when it's closing out or too mushy to surf. Almost every time I wind up with bodyboarders fighting over the thing once they realize how awesome it is. I wonder whey they've faded into obscurity.
