Hey, I was wondering is everyone having much warmer water temps then last year? Also what is everyone else got on? I remember still wearing a 5/4 this time last year. Not complaining got to love board shorts and a thick rash guard but just wondering
Trunked it in Maryland both Saturday and Sunday and felt fine. Was on the cooler end of comfortable, but felt good to be rubber-free. Was still 3/2ing it this time last year. Thank you Al Gore for your two great contributions to society: The Internet and Global Warming!
upper 60s in Delaware. Spring suit is perfect. Very warm for this time of year... This doesn't mean that water temps are anomalously awar in the tropics, which would lead to more tropical storms originating in ITCZ. But, definitely opportunity for lots of smaller storms that originate close to the coast, like we have already seen. The magic number for tropical storm development is 80 degrees F.
Carolina Beach Water Temp. 78 degrees. Went from a 4/3 to board shorts in what seemed like over night. I don't think the water ever went blow mid 50's all winter. Been in shorts since mid April.
Here in VAB it's been all trunks for about a couple weeks. One thing I've also noticed (in my opionion) is how blue / clearer the water has been compared to last year. I know we're not lucky with crystal clear water like further south or other places (waves included...) but just something else I've noticed. Maybe I'll check the Mayan calendar....
Yea... I was in a 3/2 last night and was hot... kept having to dunk my head to cool off. A springer would have been perfect.
Been trunking it for about 2 months here in carolina beach, nc. I have a 1.5 jacket and that's been fine for a while now. My buddy's been out of a 3/2 for about 3 weeks now. I'm 5'7 and he's 6'3 so i'm guessing it's because he's so much taller that he gets cold. Also I used to live in LA where the water is alot cooler this time of year, so I go to trunks at about 65 degrees. It's 78 now and doesn't feel refreshing anymore.
TRUNKS, now through October https://vimeo.com/43290232 http://deanrandazzo.dojiggy.com/PaddleforMichelle Ryan
5/4 for the foreseeable future. Air temps will max out in July/August in the 60s and water temps might make it up into the 50s. And then it will start to snow again...Love it.
Even up here in New Hampshire the water is very warm, 60 on Thursday. Trunks and a rash guard. Do not recall water hitting 60 degrees this early.
Long Island lived in long beach ny this winter, it never really dipped below 50, only had to rock a hood a few times, pretty much a 4:3 all winter- and it's been a while, but i'm pretty sure there was a day or two in december that were dooable with just a skin just moved out to southampton, it's chilly but there's warm spots, was out thursday for a few hours in shorts. i guard at a beach club, kids were in the water for the last couple weeks with just bathing suits. definitely feeling like july water temps. as the admin guy said, it looks like we are getting these weekly close storms combined with those two tropical storms. our club got dominate by irene last year... we're located between a bay and the ocean and they open it up about a half mile down the road every couple months to air out the bay --- there's a big bulkhead that protects the houses between the bay and the club, the thing stops right next to us. well irene decided to open up a new cut, right over the tennis courts and through our club. nothing too horrible, lots of sand to move... but only in the last 5 years has the bulkhead been exposed, and this year, for the first time, you can see some of it for the whole stretch, and the chunk of dune between the head and the club doesn't exist anymore - and everyone lost their stairs. most of bridgehampton through wainscott is basically duneless. there's about 6 feet left of dune of what was 5 years ago 20 feet, 20 years ago 50 feet. every year it looks like its going to be the year that billions of dollars of real estate becomes prime surf clamming grounds. admin maybe you know more about this, but it seems that with irene last year and the warm temps this year, it could ACTUALLY be the year.
