This is an issue I've struggled to resolve also. I was wearing Nautica for a while and also tried some of the beer-inspired trunks. Corona made some really nice stuff a few years back. Recently I've spurned the trunks to bring a more natural feeling to my freesurfs. I've been charging in my jock strap from little league with the cup in. Sure, you'll pick up a few pressure dents from all that cup on deck action but i feel more liberated in the water and get that extra protection that boardies lack. It also makes me feel like I'm on Jackass, which is pretty boss, especially going left at crowded beachies. ( I'm a goofy-footer) Eastend, put the free back in your free surfs and don the j-strap.

The oakley blade 2 are nice and the oneil epicfreaks. Oakleys have a compression short piece inside and the regular board short on the outside.

I like the quicksilver diamond dobby. Theyre fast drying and just enough strectch. There is such a thing as to much stretch. I had a pair of rvcas and they were to stretchy.

i have some diamond dobbys. i like them but they aren't very durable. ripped the back pocket within the first week. i also have a pair of nike 6.0's that are really nice but my favorite pair are my original hurley phantoms. great price and ultimate comfort. never got a rash in 3 years with them. plus you can't beat the price. 39.95

If you live near a Ross or tj max or something of the sort go check them out. I picked up a couple of ocean current and rusty board shorts for like 15 a piece real nice.

Am I the only one who wears trunks on the regular? I have a massive collection of
roughly 30 trunks from techs to the classics. I'd recommend Rip Curl Mirages, Billabong Platinums, or the RVCA Blockers. I have trunks from practically every surf company, and while you really can't go wrong with a tech, some guys do it better.

I'll probobly get hammered for this but Patagonia makes the best boardshorts I've ever had. I've literally never had a rash (in that area) since I started wearing them and I've never had any trouble from the seams, zippers, buttons or key loops. Every other pair of boardies I've ever had one or more of those problems. It also seems boardshorts have become so expensive (some costing $100!) that Patagonia isn't any more at about $50 I think and they have a lifetitme guarantee. They make multiple lengths-pick up a couple with the 23 inch outseam (23's I think they call them) and you won't get burned on the top of your knees in the tropics or get rash from the side of your board.

Why would you get hammered for saying that? Patagonia makes some of the most premium surf apparel and protection products on the planet... Also, this is a ridiculous thread. Advice on boardshorts??? Anyway, can anyone recommend a solid pair of socks for me? I've been struggling with this decision for a while now.

hurley phantoms are awesome shorts if you can find a good deal on them. i don't think any board shorts are worth the 90 bucks that they want for them. as for you kinglbi hanes makes a great sock and they sell them everywhere

honestly the boardshorts at walmart are great! I get more barrels and boost bigger airs when I'm wearing those than any others.

Don't waste good energy thinking about such trivial things...Just cut a pair of blue jeans off above the knee you're good to go.
