Can you please stop threatening to fight people over three-foot slop? This is the third time in a week that I've heard someone threaten violence on another surfer in the water during knee-to-waist-high conditions. That is all . . . Sincerely, Evan.
I just don't get it. As watermen, I think we should be foremost looking after the safety of anyone in the water. To me that holds whether you like the person and what they're doing or not. Threatening violence in the water, I think, runs counter to all of those types of values. And besides that, who the hell cares? It's not like it's pumping and clean . . . These incidents were also at Lincoln at Long Beach. It's the middle of July. The most recent threat I overheard was today, a Sunday. So someone dropped in on you. There were upwards of 40 surfers in the area between the jetties. You're going to get dropped in on and people are going to be in your way. There's no way around it. Just shrug it off and deal with what comes with a crowded break. If you threaten someone over it, you're being a massive tool. Also, what idiot is going to assault someone on a crowded summer day in Long Beach? I don't particularly like police, and I wouldn't be the one to call them but . . . you're going to get arrested if you do that. The police patrol those beaches in swarms and you think some lifeguard's not going to call them in if you start **** in the water or even on the beach? Be real. The threats are so ****ing stupid . . .
don't be surprised to see the morons screeching at one another when its small; the marginal conditions are when its the most like that, because when big and scary conditions keep the insecure kooks on the beach
The root of the problem is that inexperienced surfers and the "soul surfer" 12 year old girls are in the part of line up where they should not be and experienced surfers don't go to end of the line up after they catch a wave-dudes are just cutting in front of everyone as if they are privileged. Throw in the overcrowding and you have a lot of tension that should not be. Crowds aren't getting any smaller, so just respect the rules--If you see a dude dropping a wave, pull off and when you catch your ride go to the end of the lineup.
today someone dropped in on me and jumped on my board today and said to me 'you let the old people go, then you can go' summertime surfers at there finest. Ha i hope u see this kook
You guys should see how they surf in Russia if you think its bad here, I have'nt seen anyone in the lineup here with hatchets and baseball bats
^^^^ haha. I saw a logo that said "vibe less surf more"... good advise... I don't start it...but if your gonna take it to "that level", hassle me over knee high waves, or drop in on my wife ....I'll damn sure finish it verbally or otherwise. Not a threat just saying.
dude i could see russia from the break i was surfing today. and sarah palin was flying a helicopter in a bikini shooting at seals. wtf are you on about hatchets and baseball bats? mo people=mo problems. not many of us up here=pure stoke. if you can deal with cold temps and the ocassional brown bear you will find yourself in paradise. who said anything about tropical? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ccdOCyrAFTc
so far so good, a little bump today. even scored it with a grand total of 6 head in the water. best spot in OCMD today seemed to be where only the foam could go. By the way, Ivan was riding a BEATER/standup and no one was givinng grief about it. Hope it pops just a little more until mid day Monday.
fun session out tonight, although i dont agree with arguing or fighting over small waves, but at the same time some people need to learn respect. respect will earn you more waves than paddle battle scream fests.
I own all breaks! I make $300,000 a year and live 8 hours from the beach. When locals talk to me in the line-up, I eat their babies and poop in my wetsuit
What do you expect. it's summer. I had a guy go out of his way to drop in on me on a thigh high wave, then he turned around and said, "that's for burning my daughter!" I just laughed in his face. His daughter was like 9 years old and couldn't surf. Some days are good some are bad, but violence and **** talk is for weak minded.
Exactly. Unfortunatly most people are more concerned with their facebook status rather then respecting each other and being a good person in real life.
Sunday afternoon in July... water was like 75 degrees... air was like 85... humidity was about 180%... I was with my 10-year-old daughter and two of her friends, and I was on my best behavior. At one point I counted 60 heads in the water, and only got the stink eye once, along with a confrontational, "What's up, dude!?" from a guy I've never seen before, and probably never will again. Said to myself... I'm just gonna have to let this one go. And you know what?... I'm glad I did. We had a blast. Makes the post-sesh ice cream taste that much sweeter.
AMEN LbCrew. Summertime at its finest. In about 6 weeks time things will settle down. Until then we have to deal.
