Looks like all signs pointing to a weak or moderate El Nino for this winter... which seems to mean a good shot at decent winter surf, particularly if we get the "weak" setup. Maybe Mr. Info will post his thoughts?...
who knows man. last winter was awful down here in VB. its all about the low pressure systems and nor'easters if we get them.
As per Accuweather: "A couple of larger storms could unleash the above-normal snowfall in the major cities, as the winter setup should allow big storms to form off the East Coast. The best chance for the big snowstorms will arrive during the middle to latter part of the season, including January and February." Last season they (Accuweather) were pretty on target for the mid-west seeing all the storm action, with little if any on the east coast, so if their forecast holds true, maybe a few mackers here and there? We are overdue for some ice-cream headache hold-downs. Is it true the Weather Channel will be naming storms? Man, that network continues to go downhill. I remember the good old days with John Hope.
It's a good idea to name extreme winter weather storms to give them clearer context historically speaking. Nobody will remember the blizzard of 2011 years down the road, but they would remember it more easily if it was Winter Storm Gandolf (actual name on 2012 list) Europe has been naming historical winter storms for decades. Now that TWC teamed up with weather underground it is improving.
I'd rather have a WS Gandolf than 'snowmagedon' or the 'snowpocalypse'. Seems like a good idea to me...
