i know its still a little early to judge, but thursdays looking pretty sick if it sticks around (knock on wood). however, i have to attend a manditory event at 8 a.m. until 2 p.m., so i was thinking about getting on it super early. around what time would u say you can see the waves? and the thing that is bothering the most is this: would going around 5 a.m. greatly increase my chances of having a run in with a shark opposed to going around 6 or 7? (which i can't).
Cmon now, check the sunrise report, check the tides, check the winds, check the swell... My guess is with less people in the water, the increased chances of seeing some more fins could be higher. You have a greater chance of ending in a hospital bed riding down the road than going out early in the morning and surfing. Best time to go surfing is at Dawn if there is swell, which is never.
i mean i know i can go at 6, i usually do but i was wondering if its visible enough at like 5 30 but i guess i'll find that out for myself. and i guess your right, but somethin about being out there with the sun still down and nobody out but me and a friend really gets my shark imagination racing haha
I wouldn't go in the water that early. 7:30 is as early as I'll go in the summer, and as we get on towards Labor Day, you might start to see the waves breaking full of small fish in the morning, that's my signal to start going later. Last year, the last week of August I saw that, the waves breaking full of small fish, and then some big fish broke the surface and the little fish all swam like hell to get away from it. Now I don't know if that big fish was a shark or not, I didn't see a fin, but still....
I've been thinking the same thing. I have to be at work in the morning, but thigh high sets in MB and glassy doesn't come around very often. I woke up at 5:45 today and it was still dark. I got to the beach around 6:10, but ran before I went in the water. I know the sharks are most active between dusk and dawn. I still might try and surf between 6 and 6:45 or so on Thursday. The visibility is good enough. I hope I don't get eaten.
i wouldnt worry about sharks its not like we have great white on the east coast and the sharks we do have you really dont see that much.
Yeah, just forget about sharks and try to get in the water when it gets light. Should be sometime shortly after 6
thanks a lot for the answers. yea hah i've had a bad experience with the time. during bertha i got up at about 5 15 (idk why), only to meet complete darkness. and other than that the waves havn't been good enough to go until around 6 30 in my opinion. if u hav any other feedback let me know, and i'll probably see most of u out in the water thursday.
thats only (knock on wood) if this prediction is right which i hope cause i want waves since my body hasent seen the ocean since last week. Everyone pray FOR SURF.
I don't know, I reckon it'll be at least waist but it depends on what time the wind switches at and how hard it blows.
