    Everyone, please vote.

If you live in Wilmington, NC and you plan on voting for a new property tax to publicly socialize a multi-billion dollar sports organization....... please stay home.

Despite who wins what (with the exception of the aforementioned stadium tax in ilm), I mostly want to see record numbers at least 10% more than the 2008 record setting election. I want to see people more engaged and involved.

Exercise your right to vote--it preserves your right to complain.

I was mainly referring to Crony Capitalism i.e. Corporate Socialism i.e. using public money to prop up a large corporation.

That's all I got to say, don't want this thread to be deleted for being too political. But we definitely don't disagree hanna.

    Go vote folks!

If only the city would be more open to look somewhere else, other than downtown Wilmington. Why pay $14+ million for a chunk of land that does not even meet baseball regulations, not to mention the lack of parking etc. I like how Wilmington is keeping a low down on the group that offered 33.5 acres for free. Problem is, the property is over the bridge, but directly across from PPD & the projected site. Wilmington does not want the community benefits partially going to Brunswick County.

I'm just waiting for Carolina Beach's Hilton & Harris Teeter to pop up - does anyone have a time frame on that one?

Of course I don't have a vote in NC either so I guess its not too important what I think.

Harris Teeter Signs up all over the lot. I might be missing something, but is that going to be a bad thing? Easy bike ride from Canal and right next to the ABC store. Sounds like heaven...

I hope we get the Harris Teeter. I am not too satisfied with Food Lion's service, although their prices are fairly competitive. Regardless, we need something there to fill the Jubilee Park "gap." Hopefully, the Harris Teeter (if it comes) will bring more attention to the area - it would be nice to get our movie theater back. Harris Teeter, ABC & the movie theater would make a great tri-fecta.

If you're on Canal, what block do you surf? I'm on 600 CB North.

I surfed WB South End from 4:30 'til about 5:15. Everyone was closer to the pier--I was near the jetty and the water was smelling really fishy. Caught 4 pretty good waves but had to call it a day when a pod of baitfish got crushed by a fairly large shark about 6 feet away from me. Saw the shark but it was pretty sudsy, was either a "smaller" Bull or a Sand Tiger. I don't know that I have ever paddled that fast.

The CB thread...nice. I just made it back to the house. Looking out there right now - pretty choppy, but some nice faces every now and then. Looking forward to a cleaner tomorrow - most likely Sunday or Monday. Stay safe ya'll.

Carolina Beach is a beach on Pleasure Island, NC. Is 'beach' too redundant?

The OP was about the "stadium tax" - a hot political topic in the Wilmington area.

Individually it's One Person, One Vote. Collectively we vote to shape our nation.

Political beliefs aside, our government is like any other system: you put sheet in, you get sheet out. Hell, let's think about entropy for a moment. Voting turnout has been farking dismal for farking decades, the situation our nation is in is a DIRECT result IMO. So get you, your lazy ass friends and their lazy ass friends and go VOTE!

Gaffer: CB = Carolina Beach, NC. They're talking about a new proposed development on a sizeable piece of land that has laid fallow for years due to a developer's bankruptcy. I don't know the details, but I think there was a zoning issue and maybe some other local government involvement and/or lack thereof that has affected the land's development.

And Jesus Christo, Wilmington is a multi hundred million dollar a year small city and Mandalay is a multi billion dollar a year corporation. There is absolutely no reason they could not write a freaking check to fund the proposed stadium entirely if it is that "great" of an investment.

(this thread is probably headed toward deletion)
