What is the status? I hear that it is washed out, how far down can you get right now? Thanks.

It was 4x4 until yesterday. The road got washed over again. So i guess once the water recedes it proly be open again.

It will not be receding much anytime soon...forecast for down there is well overhead NE storm slop with higher than average new moon tides starting this weekend into next week.

According to the website (as of a coupla minutes ago) it is back to 4x4, but subject to intermittant closures for weather. We have booked a place in Avon for next week and are debating taking the Swann to Ocracoke ferry and jogging back up to Avon. I have heard some horror stories about the wait for the Stumpy Point to Rodanthe Ferry.

Anybody had boots on the ground there and can report actual conditions?
