Latest into the PM you've surfed?

Surfed Mission Beach, CA until just after dark, erie! Also surfed Indian River Inlet and OC quite a few times until just after dark, erie as well!! It's almost not worth it because the whole time you are out, you start to worry more about what the hell is lurking around you than you do about the swell. Well, at least for me! People are afraid of what they can't see, at night, I can't see... See ya in the morn!! LOL

 

Used to work till 5 or 6 every day so by the time I got home and to the water it would be 7 or 8. I've surfed till around midnight. When there's no moon it is hard

 

i think i surfed a bunch of times past midnight just this summer when i visited buddies in redondo beach california. we surfed manhattan beach, seal beach, redondo, santa monica, venice at night. as was already mentioned by someone else venice was something else at night with the glow, as was santa monica. i went a couple times in june, and once in august. i've surfed a handful of times a year at night before this. mostly in the summer though.

playa hermosa cr. one hotel has stadium lights on the beach for night surfing. it was really weird.

 

I used to sleep under the Duck Pier. I also had a friend that worked there. He and another friend bought property by the camp grounds in 70's for nothing and sold out in the 90's for a ton of bucks. We'd drive there after closing down the bars in VB and stumble out in the water soon after arriving.

 

full moon in the summer time, 11-12ish small waves, very peaceful, at one with nature.

 

always wanted to try moonlight canoe trip. i hear they are pretty awesome!

 

A friend and I surfed one of our breaks in mid October about 5 years ago under a full moon with bioluminesence.(please hold the jokes). It was extreamly prominent.One of the coolest sessions I ever had.

 

I used to surf casino pier at night, only in the summer though. I would stay out till around 11 or so me and 2 of my good friends, good times. I guess that won't be happening for awhile: fusandy

 

That's cool, I had one session like that a long time ago, full moon, same thing

 

I would assume down in Florida you guys would have that happening alot more then N.J.When I first rolled up my buddy was surfing in water that looked like the red tide.There was waves and I was wearing a suit so I said what the heck.As it started getting dark he was riding in a wave and started yelling.He actually thought something was chasing him.There was a bright blue streak behind his board.Then it got dark every single motion in the water would light up.Was the coolest thing.

 

Yeah, I don't make a habit out of surfing at night, but the one time I recall it was full moon and every stroke lit up the water around me and my board had a neon green glow to it (normally white). This was in the Gulf actually, where it's very very salty. I went on a bioluminenecent tour in La Paguera, PR last month too, which was pretty sweet, they took us to the Phospherescent Bay, very warm "milky" water, so salty you float with little to no effort. They give you snorkle gear so you can see it better underwater, pretty amazing stuff.

 

sounds like american shark bate, this is milky water....more like the blood of the americans before you....keep swimming americans, keep swimming(grins and rubs hands together)

 

^if this is where im thinkin it is, i also had a great night session here too. it was nov of 2010 and there were waves all day but couldnt get in the water. i was also scheduled to lifeguard an indoor pool that night but i got a text about an hr before my shift saying a swimmer spotted a turd and the pool had to be closed for sanitation, so i came right to this spot.

it was chest-head high super clean and really peely. it was also pretty crowded and i only got a couple waves in the last hour before it got dark. as it got darker and ppl started leaving, i started having so much fun because there were only three of us out and there were more waves coming in than we could catch. the lights turned on and there was a bunch of white birds in the water just past the breakers, allowing us to see when waves were coming because the birds would rise and fall. we stayed in the water until about 8pm and my highlight wave was a backside barrel where i was all tucked in and i could see the lights from the restaurant reflecting off the face of the wave.

this wasnt the latest into the pm ive surfed but id say top 5 sessions of my life and it happened right here in nj. all thanks to a senile swimmer who pooped in a pool

 

I guess it would be a lot of fun to glide or an idle paddle in the moonlight. No paddle boarding and nothing strenuous please!

HAHA, actually we were told there aren't any sharks in that area, it's supposively a "protected" area in the Carribean.

 

Sandbridge Pier with a buddy. Really fun. Could see the waves coming by wtching the seagulls moving up and down on the outside. Nothing like surfing black waves.
