I'm surfing the bowl today. On a ten+ I get cut off by a tourist on an SUP. Literally dropped in on me after getting a few turns in. The ****ing thing cuts my eye and I had to be rushed to Wilcox. Now I have witnesses and this is some kook from the St Regis here. What to do? I have his insurance info for liability. He already paid for my visit today but how to proceed?
Would it have been better if they weren't in a SUP? Sorry about your eye and stuff but I would bet it was an accident and they happen. Wrong place at the wrong time. He seems to be doing the responsible thing and taking care of your expenses and his insurance is there if you require more attention. Wanna sue him? Why? I think you should try to get surfing banned all together. That'll show him. And if you weren't surfing in the first place you would have never been hurt. Get done being mad and get over it.... At least you got to surf today. Try focusing on how good your day was before your collision.
what really is the issue? would it make any difference if it was an aggro shortboarder or some kid (young or old) on a sponge and you still got hurt? he made good with the dr bills. you have a cool wound and exciting story to wow the babes and impress yer landlubber friends.
Odds are you will probably see him again in the line up. Then again you might not with one eye. At least you can sport a cool pirate eye patch!
Seems like the guy is doing the right thing by taking care of your med bills so far. What to do? Shake hands, forgive & keep moving. Be a man, not some puss who's screaming about a lawsuit. How did America get to the point where someone owes everybody for anything gone wrong? Stuff happens. Life ain't fair. Get over yourself.
Yes,it would have been better I would think. Would you rather have a surfboard or an SUP slap you in the face.
Exactly... Of course it's worse with an SUP. Would you rather get hit by a skateboard or a car? I'm not gonna hate on SUP's and start that never ending battle. Ride what makes you happy. BUT, if you are going to ride something that is that big and dangerous you have to be more responsible. You can't just run someone over then apologize. Make sure you have the knowledge and skill to ride a giant board around other people. SUPs get a bum rap, because beginners paddle out in crowds. That's how accidents happen That being said. Lawsuits are for punks, unless you have permanent damage and need support to survive. If he paid for your DR. visit he's doing the right thing. Be a man and move on. Don't look for other ways to milk it.
the only reason it is worse on a SUP is SUPs create more damage since they are bigger and heavier. that sucks. least he is paying your bills hope the eye heals well.
i couldnt help but laugh jimmycrab. that sucks man... my buddies and i call them aircraft carriers! the only time i can justify or see myself on one is for like 55+ y/o's
You must not live on the east coast, because right now I wish I owned an SUP. It would be nice to have something for all the flat days, which make up 50% of the year.
Amen. I don't get why morons always hate on long boards and SUPs. There is a board for every condition. When we have 0-1 ft days, I want an SUP. A little larger, and I want a long board. Ride what you like!
We need to ban these awful wepons. They are huge and catch waves left and right. Capable of mowing down multiple surfers on any given line up.
Sounds like this SUP'er is an idiot in the water but a decent guy on the beach... trying to pay up for his mistake. Maybe he's learned a lesson, and won't do that again. What to do?... If you can't afford it, or if you don't have your own insurance, I guess you could ask him to have his insurance pay. Otherwise... sh!t happens. I've had my fair share of stitches from jerks who couldn't keep control of their boards.
When did surfers become such pussies? Afraid of a fiberglass board while they surf waves that can end their lives. Like someone else said, let's just ban surfing all together. It's obviously too dangerous.
Sorry u got lumped. That always blows. At least the dude didn't try to turn it around on you and say some lame sh*t like "it's not pipe bro". Hopefully he learned to be way more careful and in control. It's enough that he's taking financial responsibility so be happy cuz that's rare. There is a big differance between Laird coming at you on a sup versus some lard coming at you on a sup
he was some rich guy dropping in on my home wave. Not that his financial situation matters, but he had a nasty attitude. The problem was he dropped in on a ten foot wave at the bay. Not safe at all. He was also going to nosedive too. Would it have been better with a surfboard? Yes. I got stitches and ended up surfing limahai all by myself this afternoon.
"Eye for an Eye" vs. "The Golden Rule" Yank & I (and others) actually agree on something! This time it was you getting the short end of the stick (pun intended), but next time it might be you accidentally dishing out the pain, in the water or elsewhere. As a guy who's made the "eye for an eye" (pun intended) mistake many, many times, I can honestly say that it has never improved the situation or made me feel even an ounce better about what happened. On the other hand... what's always made me feel better is dropping my anger and my pride and forgiving someone for their mistake... hard to do, I know... but worth it. P.S. next time you see me foaming at the mouth and streaming obscenities at the local kiteboarders... please remind me that I said this!
