Does anyone drink energy drinks before heading out for a surf session? or before any other type of athletic activity?
I tried redbull before surfing a few times and have only felt thirsty 30minutes into it...

I hate energy drinks. I stick with old fashion coffee... If I still need more energy I'll do some cocaine.

HA HA HA, this is good. I used to get a coffee and a sausage biscuit from Mcd's.... half hour into session I would have to get out and handle my business. Not addicted, but out of all the energy drinks I have tried, I stand by red bull. But usually, walking over the dune and seeing actual surf pumps me up enough.

those things are terrible for you. i will admit to indulging in a monster now and then but not before physical activity. they cause cramps, dehydration, and a lot of other unwanted symptoms. they are great for mixing with alcohol but thats about it.

I tried one once before a session. All I can say is it was the worst session of my life. I felt jittery and unstable, it was terrible.

"Water not only quenches you thirst better, it tastes better too."

Energy drinks give me the jitters, despite drinking 3-4 cups of coffee daily. Water is my solution to staying hydrated & focused during sessions. Have you had your 64 ounces today?

I almost always have a 8oz can of sugar free redbull before going out. It's only as much caffeine as a cup of coffee, and a little bit of caffeine is good for you before activity. Sugar isn't so good, so get the sugar free. Food is energy, though, so I eat some bananas or protein bars about 1/2 hour before going.

I would avoid some of the other energy drinks since they can pump way too much caffeine into them.

yeah bra ever since I struck up the sponsorship with monsteredbulljoose I am contractually obligated to live on it. I have since grown an extra testical and can practice bio-luminescence.

No, really, that sh*t is awful for you. If you need more energy for surfing you should start eating better.

I hydrate the day before. Before surf. electolite water, poweraid often mixing in Super Pump as a preworkout lift. Increases vascularity getting more blood to the muscles. Also bananas for potasium to the muscles. Some coffee but not enough to make me pee (winter surf).

to qualify why I posted this in the first place.... it seems like everytime I turn the tv on, that redbull commercial is on where at the end that space jumper is leaping from his capsule.... after like the umteenth time seeing it, I felt like calling bRll shRt on it. seems like most people do not drink the stuff before activities other then going out for the night...

I am so sick of that Red Bull commercial. At the same time, I know plenty of people that can't go a day without their Red Bull fix. If I were atop Red Bull, I would keep pushing the commercials. Thousands, if not millions, of people are watching these commericals thinking "I too can be extreme" before going out to buy a case or two of Red Bull. It's a great PR stunt for the weak minded.

I've drank that 5-hour energy before paddling out before, didn't really make me jittery, but one of the times i was out there I started feeling like I my heart was racing, so i just usually have my normal cup of coffee and drink lots of water.

I drank a red bull once... I charged Jaws, did a back flip on my dirt bike, break danced a bit, knocked out Manny Pacquiao and jumped off the moon... That sh*t is crazy!

I hope you also sucked your own B========D........ You know......... LIKE A BOSS!

Seriously, those energy drinks are not good for you. 5-hour not so much but some people can't really handle all that folic acid and b-12 all at once, thus the heart racing Zippy experienced.

I usually drink two cups of coffee per day and either one glass of sweet tea or a Mexicoke at lunch. That's it for caffeine. If I'm doing a dawn patrol I might drink a half cup of coffee, always eat at least one banana and do a quick set of push-ups and sit-ups really fast before leaving the house to get the blood moving. Seems to work unless I drink too much the night before, I'm sluggish no matter what if that happens.

    Exacto!
Coffee dehydrates you by the way. Try dealing with health and well being from the front end through diet, exercise, and lifestyle rather than attempting quick fixes like energy drinks, and drugs (legal or illegal). Your body will thank you.

No energy drinks for me... I think they taste like sh!t and they're too bloody expensive. Besides... they stain your teeth, have too high a calorie-to-nutrition ratio, and all that artificial "sports drink" crap scares me. I drink a lot of coffee, but don't purposefully coffee up before a session. The prospect of a session gets me amped enough. Sometimes too much... if it's pumping, I'll often get that "I could crap myself right now" feeling.
