Ok so i want to buy a small boat, actualy more of a dinghy than a boat. I want it to be 10-12 footish and under $1000. I plan on buying a low cost trolling motor mabey electric. But i really want to buy a boat and a motor for 1000.. any help would be appresheated. Also no inflateable boats
Really, I plan on keeping this boat in the navisink river right out of marine park in redbank. The only thing with inflatable is that i dont want to inflate it everytime i go out and i plan on fishing out of my boat too
Heck, a minimal motor will cost you way more than $1,000. If you buy an electric trolling motor, don't forget to add the battery cost- and what do you do when you run out of battery juice- take a back-up battery? Take a look around and you'll see. Kayaks offer a more reasonable option, so long as you go solo or maybe tandem. I've had my eye on this: http://www.hobiecat.com/adventure-island/models_adventure_island.html But it runs around 3k new. The mirage drive works pretty well from what I hear. Check around local kayak rental operations and maybe they're unloading some of their rentals since it's the end of the season.
See if you can pick up a small aluminum boat... 10ish foot + motor. You can prolly find one used for about $500. If that is so bad, you can get an ocean kayak, yeah its not the same as a boat and you gotta paddle, but they are fun. Can catch waves. Stable enough that you can stand up and paddle one (Like a S.U.P. board, I've done it on mine. Just remember if you do that, turning is opposite so if you lean backside, you'll go frontside, thats how I fell off mine today doing that). You can fish off of it.
aluminum boat is a good choice check "the fisherman" there's been a nice one in there for a while launch it from the beach when the fish are just outside or whatever your purpose is
I actually really like the ocean kayak idea. I live on the Navesink as well, and our neighbors let us take out their ocean kayaks whenever. Went out a couple days ago to check out the dolphins, actually. You get a little exercise, don't have to worry about loud/smelly/broken motors, and yes, you can fish off of them. Best places to find boats: - Monmouth Boat Club in RB classified board - Shrewsbury Yacht Club in Oceanport classified board (both boards are in the club, you can ask around and someone will show you) - Craig's List - Asbury Park Press classifieds If you want an aluminum boat, well, you might as well buy the engine and boat together. Engines are going to run you upwards of $1000 alone... even the little 2hp engines. I don't suggest using an electrical motor in the salty river either. You're better off using paddles.
