No my arms didnt fall off haha but i would do it when its too small that you cant paddle into them. I got a ski and a spot where nobody is out. I would just like some advice or tips from anyone that has done it or tried before. Thanks for your help
no such thing; get a longboard. if it's so small that it's impossible to catch under your own speed, you'd probably be better off going skating or something like that.
If you watch the video you'll see them try to paddle a few, one guy takes such a steep drop he just flys off and another goes straight. These aren't kooks either those are professionals... edit: barely head high? come on man did you even watch the video lol
I can paddle into waves But you cant do a turn. in florida summers are 1 foot closeouts at best. Haha i cant skate the entire summer. Thanks for your help
you have a ski. go do it. flail until you fail to flail. if you're not stomping on anyone's buzz with your noise pollution, go have fun. eff the frat boy fun police here on swellinfo. most of them do nothing except come on here and try to make people feel bad about doing things and thinking things that haven't been approved by the official swellinfo crew. god forbid you should actually have fun doing something that THEY DON'T DO.
Actually, go out and figure the $hit out. Have your buddy drive the ski, u hold and and figure it out! Not rocket science. Have fun and at least head out in bigger surf! We want pics or vids!
You'll get the hang of it... It takes time to get the timing down. Just try over and over and you'll get it... Don't listen to people ***** either. You can do whatever you want. I don't know when it became "uncool" to have fun messing with a wave runner. I always wished I had a ski when I was a kid. Just DO NOT go to a lineup where anyone is. You have a ski. You can find a spot to yourself.
Tow At/Tow In. Seems they both have a place at times. Tow At is a summer time thing here. The east coast gets very fast and racing waves on size many times, tons of close outs due to the waves breaking so fast. So if you want to make more then a few during your session a ski could be used. Looks like great practice for holding your line from deep behind the curtain. But it should be noted that there are more then a few young and old rippers in my neck of the woods that paddle into similar waves. And they are are WAYYYY Better then those Named on those videos. Way taller as well. Going straight with jet ski assist is not really impressive. Even less so when you Still barely make even half of them, if that. Free Fall into the PIT like a real man. In relation to the East Coast Only of course for tow INs <---obx/fla/ne/ns not included
Yeah tow at should be fun. But its completely different then tow in, haha I'm no Gmac i just want to have fun in Ankle to knee high surf. Any tips or personal experiences would be nice to hear tho. Thanks for your help
from my perspective, it was never cool. i see the practical applications of a ski as a lifesaving tool, or towing into big/gnarly waves, but not to engage in near-shore f*ckery like tow ats. there are so many other ways to have fun & get out on the water when it's small/flat. not everything requires loud noises & gasoline. edit: for the record, i would be stoked to give towing a go once in big surf, just to try it. other than that, i'll happily paddle in every other times.
I've considered towing when it's massive and out of control on the inside, and impossible to paddle out, but there's those big, shifty peaks waaaaay out there that look rideable. That would be cool. But other than that... no thanks.
For the record it IS something I have done on more than one occasion... way back in the 90's. Sure it's fun just ****ing around but didn't really do much for me when you take into account the gas, the smell and constantly wondering if whoever towing you is actually competent and responsible enough to be safe about it (for practice when your buddy effs up, just repeatedly ride your skateboard full speed into and under your ski while its on the trailer). Since I feel I should explain myself: I have always had a deep seated hatred for jetskis, or more accurately the absolute morons that ride them. Probably has to do with all the wakeboarding I used to do when I was younger and the inevitability of some kook on a jet ski riding up right behind you trying to jump your wake. Or maybe it's all the regattas I have sailed in Banks Channel with kooks on jet skis who don't know the first thing about the "rules of the road" on the water--buzzing by within 3 feet of your boat, weaving in and out of the fleet, etc... Or maybe it was that one regatta where my friend's little sister (12 years old at the time) got t-boned by a jetski while sailing her Laser, resulting in plates and pins in her femur (that dude was lucky the Coasties were nearby to regulate--he would have wound up on the bottom of the channel along with his kookcraft... at least the Coasties let us have a little fun before they drug the guy onto their deck)... Or maybe it was that one time surfing at Mase when some idiots decided they were going to do tow-ats amongst everyone else surfing... I dunno, maybe I'm a little biased. But you can ask anyone who has spent a considerable amount of time on the water what they think of jet skis and you will probably get the same sentiment. Whatever you do: Take a freaking boating safety course, First Aid and CPR before entering this endeavor. You'll probably need them all...
